A wonderful performance. I loved first watching it 20 years ago. McQueen's charisma is unbeatable. They should never have bothered with the Brosnan remake.

I have had this movie on Video for ages and have wanted the DVD, unfortunatly my only option was to buy the US version, which I have now done. This movie is one of my must sees, a very moving film, which all my friends hadnt seen before and have loved. As to the previous reviews if the book is even better, I will go and buy. This is a must for your DVD collection.

VHS : It's A Wonderful Life [1946]
Yes, it is a great life affirming movie with its heart firmly in the right place...BUT...personally I would have prefered not such a happy ending, or a very different kind of happy ending - I just feel that the miraculous turnaround of George's fortunes at the end, while rightly suggesting that all good deeds may be remembered, and returned in kind, missed a real chance to state that happiness didn't have to depend on material wealth at all - After all, when he was given his old life back, George's euphoric happiness was based soley upon his family and friends, regardless of his dire financial state! This was a real chance to bang the point home about the real dangers of capitalism, but it was totally spurned. Indeed, this ending almost suggested, after ... Read More:

John Travolta (Grease) stars as Tony Manero, a troubled 19 year old who's joy in life comes from the dance floor, and when Stephanie comes along, he finds a whole new world to be explored in dancing.

This 1977 music drama is one of the reasons Travolta is one of Hollywood's most established stars with a mesmerizing Oscar nominated performance as Tony Manero, the troubled paint store assistant whose only joy comes from dancing. Travolta is an icon on the dance floor in this picture, with sweet moves and a great image, especially in his slick white suit. Dancing moves, motives and timing all combine to give him one of his best performances in his career.

Having a difficult home life but a joyous night life gives the film a sweet escapism ... Read More:

VHS : Hamlet
This Play is one of the most important pieces of drama and poetry in Shakespeare's complete works. A cycle of peace and quiet is disturbed by an incestuous crime, both the murder of a brother and the hasty and sensuous marriage of the murderer with the victim's wife, a marriage which is totally against the normal Christian and feudal rules of the time : you are not supposed to covet the wife of your brother. Then havoc falls onto the kingdom of Denmark. Hamlet is forced to play deranged and crazy to save his life and to cover up his violent defense against dangers around him. Ophelia will get deranged to the point of drowning herself. Then the cycle of disturbances will go on to its utter end which means the destruction of all the protagonists. Shakespeare's vision ... Worthy restoration edition of this mostly forgotten film, with extras and director commentary. There's a whole generation who have never read the book or seen the film, unless it's on their GCSE topics list. Look around and see what's happening in inner cities today and you realise that this film is more relevant now than when it came out in '63. Don't blame the production team for the choppy editing or limited character development; that was the fault of the distributors who wanted a 90 minute film, not the two hours the director intended. It would be impossible to make a film as close as this to the book now. Don't even look at the '93 remake, its hopeless.

VHS : Priest [1994]
this was my first gay film and managed to stay on top of my favorites.

The lead actor did a terrific job portraying a priest who is torn between his "duties" and homosexuality.

hey, at least his lover was an adult unlike most of the highly publicized real life scandals with children.

What can I say that hasn't been said?

This is a brutally honest movie, depicting the troubles befalling a dysfunctional family. Ray Winstone is astonishingly menacing as the abusive, drug and drink-addled husband, whilst Kathy Burke plays a blinder as the long suffering wife. You'll also recognise a few faces from Britain's most-watched soap, all spouting the kind of language they aren't allowed to on TV.

It's grim. It will make you cringe in places, and the unexpected (but truly inspired) conclusion leaves you pondering with chilling speculation on what might happen next.

Hard to describe this as entertainment, but it certainly is compelling.
