VHS : Untamed Heart [1992]
I first watched this film back in 1998 on TV and recently tracked it down on DVD and bought a copy.

It is a beautiful story of a tentative romance between an unlikely couple with Caroline, the unlucky in love waitress, and Adam, the kitchen hand, who is a shy, withdrawn individual who admires Caroline from afar.

I guess the reason the film appeals to me is because you can relate to the characters, their ordinary lives and the positive message regarding relationships and love. The pacing of the film is perfect, its small town setting is convincing and the supporting cast if a little sparse, also make their contribution.

A great film.

VHS : Bomber Harris [1989]
Creating empathy for Harris with a German is not easy but this drama succeeded. First of all the film shows that Harris had a clear military target and a strategic objective. Furthermore the author plays devil's advocate in suggesting that Harris' strategy of aerial bombardment would have shortened the war as opposed to aiming at specific targets. Harris' duty as a soldier is to his men and his country regardless of the cost to others. Thaw plays him as a complex character: on the one hand as a ruthless soldier but on the other hand also as a human being. The film raises a lot of moral questions and does not provide easy answers but food for thought. It also sows what a fine actor John Thaw is: here he acts very restrained and controlled as opposed ... Read More:

How does a young girl from a wealthy family with no skills or education support herself and her baby when they turn their backs on her? An absolutely charming film based on book by Mary Wesley. The characters are charming, the plot full of twists, the scenery is beautiful, and the guy gets his girl in the end. My aunt and I love it!

VHS : City Of Joy [1992]
Once in a while a film comes along that has the power to change your mind about certain pre-conceived ideas. This is one such film. City of Joy never shys away from the power of its message and its graphic picture of life in a poor part of a large and spralling Indian city. Yes, at times it can be a little hard to swallow - the big American doctor (Patrick Swayze) waltzing onto the scene - but its not over sickly sweet and you come away feeling that you have been taught a valuable lesson. That life is for living, not for spectating and you must live each moment and treasure each experience; savour it. You never know when it can be taken from you.

What can I say, this film is excellent. It's quite a girly film but the guys will probabaly love it, especially Madonna. She plays a brilliant character. It's great to see how the women changed while their husbands were at war and decided to start a baseball league. You'll love it!! It's my all time favourite film, I've watched it so many times.
