VHS : Pink Flamingos

I bought this movie after I first saw 'Hairspray' (the 1987 original) and thought that Divine was hilarious. However, I did not quite know what to make of this movie, or just what I was letting myself in for - it's SO disgusting and obscene... Not only that; but the story did not make any sense to me either (perhaps it was not meant to) The strange thing is, some years later, I read a review of the film on another Site by someone who pointed out that this movie makes a really good statement about modern society and its obsession in becoming famous; it is a great representation of what people will do to become famous today, and the lengths they will go to! Think about it, and the movie does make some sense - kind of! The ... Read More:

VHS : Angel - Season 2 (Box Set 2) [2000]
Of all the box sets forming this wonderful series, this has to be considered the best. We see the sheer grit of dark angel, the tension relieving moments with his former employees, and a trully fantastic season closing arc.
The Angel we see here is no longer the dark avenger he started as. We're now dealing with a different beast with a score to settle, and there are pretty much no boundaries left for him to cross. He even goes as far to put his soul on the line in 'epiphany', which does exactly what it says on the tin.
As for the other characters, Wesley's transformation away from geek to a man of (somewhat) authority. Gunn becomes a little more bearable, and Cordy continues to grow as a person. Which is a shame.
The producers ... Read More:

VHS : Flowers In The Attic [1987]
The film doesn't do the book justice. Out of the 2 film versions this one has better actors in it. The other version has actors that look too old and aren't anything like I imagine. The plot is changed on various occasions and is not as gripping as the book is. I would watch the film first then read the book so you will not be disappointed.

VHS : Mr.Sardonicus [1961]
I watched "Mr Sardonicus" shortly after "I Saw What You Did", and I was relieved to see that William Castle hadn't sunk into comedy territory for this one. It's actually made earlier, around the same time as Castle's other most successful outings, although, this is one of his lesser known movies. "Sardonicus" is a period piece beginning with a successful young doctor, who recieves a cryptic letter from his former fiancee urging him to visit her and her mysterious husband Baron Sardonicus at their remote mansion somewhere in the middle of Europe. She hints that she is in some danger, and as she is the only woman he has ever loved, he drops everything and sets off immediately. When he arrives he finds that Sadronicus is more than just a little strange, in fact ... Read More:

VHS : Twilight's Last Gleaming [1977]
Knowing political analogy, incisive script, great acting , but primarily a gripping edge of your seat drama from one of the great movie directors.
Why is it that movie companies seem eager to release so many mediocre movies on to DVD yet this masterpiece remains unavailable.
Please , please release on DVD !

VHS : Doctor Who - The Brain Of Morbius [1976]
This is a shameless rip of the 1930s Frankenstein films. All the Hollywood Gothic trademarks are there, from the crashing chadelier to the torch-wielding lynch mob, the grotesquely ugly monster, the hunchbacked assistant and the craggy lightning-silhouetted rocks. Star of the show is Philip Madoc, who makes the most of his over-ripe dialogue with a perfectly judged performance that blends fanticism and amoral cunning to great effect. And the production's relish for blood and gore makes this hugely enjoyable. One to remember.

VHS : Doctor Who: The Master Tin Set - Colony In Space / Time Monster
Personally I think these two stories are long overdue for DVD release. Whilst the earlier reviewer's comments about the quality of the stories are mostly true, I think that they're missing the point - as with much late sixties and early seventies 'Who' there IS a lot of padding, however, there is also a decent amount of dialogue, and interplay between the characters that is generally missing in today's high-speed, action-oriented Doctor Who.
The (mostly) Earthbound Doctor and his UNIT colleagues have formed a tight-knit group by this stage in the series, and there is some particularly amusing badinage between The Doctor and The Brigadier and the latter and Sergeant Benton in `The Time Monster'. In one memorable scene The Brig sneers at The Doctor's yellow Edwardian ... Read More:

VHS : The Mummy Returns [2001]
I bought this film after watching the first, and it is not as good. But that doesnt matter because i wasnt expecting it ot be. The storyline is nonsense and the animation of the Scorpion King was dreadful but they brought back much loved charcters and Rick and Evie's 8 yeard old son Alex. The fight scenes were good and the little pygmies mummies were great.
The thing that brought it down a star was was the fact, they sacrificed the horror like in the first one, to make it a 12 rating.
Overall, I felt the film was just a simple film, brought out after the sucess of the first but enjoyable to watch.
