VHS : West Side Story [1961]
Outstanding. I get bored sometimes with some of the long dance sequences in classic musicals, even in great movies like Singin' in the Rain and the Fred-and-Ginger musicals, but this is one of the few films where the dance is truly a pleasure to watch. The lead actors Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer are not often mentioned much in review but the youthfulness and sincerity of their performances is key to the film's success. Those who produced the film considered many options for these two roles and as with everything else, they got it right.

VHS : There's No Business Like Show Business [1954]
There's No business like Show business is a very cheesy stereotype of a musical. Marilyn although is excellent in it but is easy to see why she was not enthusiastic about making it.

It is an excellent showcase of Marilyn's singing and dancing skills!

The costumes are exquisite, and Marilyn gets all the best songs and outfits.

She is beautiful and I highly recommend it just because marilyn is in it but I dont recommend it for the story line.

Worth watching though just for Marilyn Monroe!!!!

A brilliant stage musical that translates well onto the screen, a beautifully worked storyline around the immortal hits of Madness, with 'It Must Be Love' 'One Better Day' and 'The Sun and The Rain' fitting perfectly! Wonderfully performed by a stunning cast, special mentions to Michael Gibson and Julia Gay as the two teenage lovers. Breathtaking costume changes, dance numbers, singing and set that makes it well worth a viewing! Bring it back on the West End!

VHS : Steps - The Video
The first Steps video is good as they intoduce it themselves and show the girls mainly some cooking and make-up tips. Whereas the boys get some juggling and footie skills. But all learn some dance steps. However, I wish they would release a DVD of their theatre tour when they did the Disney medley and a video of the BRITS 1999 ABBA Medley with B*witched, Billie Piper, Tina Cousins and Cleopatra. Actually please Steps re-release all of your videos as DVDs and call it our Shows (the Step One video, Theatre tour, Stepacular tour, Buzz tour, as you already have the gold tour on The Last Dance). I would definately buy it.

I have loved her music since I saw her in 1980 supporting Jon Anderson

This beautiful young lady came on stage with just an acoustic guitar and
play for 30 minutes. She was awesome.

Always remember the song "First Night n New York"

Personal tracks are from touchpaper and voices records.

If you like female singers with a deep sexy voice, try this cd it is a great insight into a singer with a very varied career. Her first album was released in 1971.

One moan, it would have been nice to have a third cd featuring her collusion with
Jon and Vangelis
Steve Howe
Wishbone Ash
and her own short lived group Transporter "Kids on the run"

128.Lisztomania [1975] starring: Roger Daltrey, Sara Kestelman, Paul Nicholas, Ringo Starr, Rick Wakeman

As a film, this is totally brilliant. But why did Rick Wakeman, a professional musician and composer, choose to drag the beautiful music of Wagner and Liszt into a teenybopper cesspit?

Ken Russell has captured well the relationship between the two composers but has reinforced the negative attitudes of Wagner's music against Liszt's almost-saintly masterpieces. If you are a fan of Liszt and/or Wagner, the film is worth watching for Russell's incredible talent and interpretation of 19th century show-biz ethos.

VHS : A Chorus Line [1985]
I haven't seen this on stage so I judge only by what I see here. This is hard to define as a musical as there are so few actual musical numbers in the traditional sense. It veers from the odd proper musical number to odd bits of singing without any connection. The whole Cassie story seems attached to the rest of the film and why don't they just chuck her out of the theatre - how hard is that? It opens well with the mass auditions but it is downhill after that. The only decent musical number is the T1ts and @ss song which earns the entire 1 star here. The rest makes very little sense. Why do they all come back for the ending? Odd.

I saw this years ago and forgot how brilliant it is in a feel good kind of way. As a former tom boy I can't help but relate to 'Clam' and was pleasently surprised that my daughter and her friend watched it all the way through and she asked to watch it again the next day. Only downside is that I can't stop singing the tunes in my head and sometimes outload much to my family's embarressment.
