VHS : Baby Beethoven - Symphony of Fun
Baby Beethoven takes the original concept devloped in Baby Mozart to a new high. OK, one might argue that the concept involves marketing of different brands and types of toys, but that should not detract from the concept that young ones tend to love these DVDs.

The "subtitles" indicating the different symphonies are very helpful, with the dog/duck chase in the Eroica Symphony particularly appealing to our young son. There is perhaps nothing to beat "Wellington's Victory" with the puppetry being excellent.

What a great finale with the 9th, and the young children "playing at" playing their respective toy instruments.

As is usual with Baby Einstein DVDs, one sometimes thinks that perhaps they are overpriced ... Read More:

VHS : Baraka [1993]
You will either love this film or hate it. Although often compared to Koyaanisqatsi, there is a difference: that other film has a theme, that of the inorganic and organic world subject to human depredation and ever-increasing pressure. I liked THAT film very much. THIS film has no real theme. The word "baraka", often translated as "blessing", can also mean "spiritual structure", "spiritual force/strength" etc. It has been applied to both Gandhi and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. The film appears to be trying to show the world in 90 minutes, an impossibility which has led to this self-regarding mish-mash of scarcely-connected images.

The images in the film include mountains, volcanoes, clouds, temples, Far Eastern factories etc. There is, ... Read More:

This series really shows the rich wildlife of the Indian Subcontinent. Especially important as India is becoming so overpopulated that this may be the only way to see wild animals of the region in the future, although i hope this does not happen. I have been to the Badra Tiger Reserve in Southern India and let me tell you that seeing a wild Royal Bengal Tiger in its natural surroundings is something i will never forget.

Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason race their C Type Jags in the classic 50's car race through spectacular Mexican scenery coupled with an awsome soundtrack of more recent Pink Floyd tracks. Film includes highs and lows of the race with insight into the technical and historical side. Good interviews and narrative by Gilmour, Mason and friends along with great shots of all the American and European cars. Some of the scenes of cars screeching round corners can become a bit monotonous though if that sort of thing bores you.
If you're into Pink Floyd or classic cars this is a great video - if you're into both, then this is a must have!

of the 13 season reviews i own this was the first one i bought and is probably the best. some brilliant drivers like prost senna mansell piquet and other world class performers like alesi berger patrese and the debut of one michael schumacher. the detail of the qualifying and races is brilliant while its interesting to see how times have changed. ferrari mclaren benetton and williams competed for wins whilst the likes of jordan tyrrell dallara and even minardi had their moments.

id buy simply because of the quality of racing, the excellent footage and coverage. plus to look back at days when more than 2 teams and 4 drivers could win races.

VHS : Line Dancing With Lionel
Well, if you're looking for a gentle introduction to line dancing, this isn't it. My friend and I, thought (as you do sometimes) we would have an evening in and see if we could get a bit fitter with line dancing. It's not your average way to get fit, but we thought it'd be fun. How wrong could we be? We were expecting step by step instructions, not fully choreographed dances from the start. It was an absolutely hilarious night, but we still have no clue how to line dance! :o)

VHS : Baby Mozart - Music Festival
This is an excellent product. I got this when my little girl was a few months old, but unlike some of the other reviewers' children, my girl wasn't glued to the set. Don't get me wrong, she was interested but not fascinated. At 17 months now in September '07 I have started to put it back on for her and she is now transfixed by it. I was amazed by how quickly she was picking up on things, shouting "Choo" when the train comes on (as it often does) and how excited she gets when the furry animals come on.

I have just ordered the box set as I wanted the baby shakespeare for her and the box set was a bargain compared to getting them all individually.

My advice to all parents and uncles/aunts/godparents and grandparents is that this ... Read More:

VHS : Pole To Pole With Michael Palin [1992]
This is the first Michael Palin book I've read, so i can't compare it in quality to any of the others, but I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book, much more than I expected to in fact. It can take a little while to get used to Palin's style, as he constantly switches from a detailed narration to a note book shorthand, but once you've acclimatised you quickly realize he is a very competent writer. With a broad yet never verbose vocabulary he paints vivid pictures of the lands he passes through whilst at the same time making many and varied observations about the people and cultures he encounters. It was like having a constant traveling companion and by the end you can't help but feel a great deal of affection not just for Palin, but for the whole team.

VHS : Wild Weather
The Wild Weather series is truly dramatic and exciting. The video is a great resource for teaching weather in secondary schools, its dramatic nature grabs the attention of the rowdiest of classes. Donal Macintyre goes to extremes (as he does best) to provide us with informative cover of an extremely wide range of weather phenomena.
