A brilliant look at early nineties family, and more importantly teen life. Firstly, teen movies of today all seem to be set in school, and involve getting a date or a shag. Usually every character is hollow except the main one who we are supposed to cheer for, but more often than not they are hollow too. The actors are chosen for their looks and although they mostly give competent performances, they give nothing special, the film offers no insight, and nothing much happens. This is why Buffy (series) shone so brightly-brilliant stories, brilliant acting, extremely well developed characters. But it probably isn't fair to compare a long running TV show to a crappy film. However, DTMTBD proves ... Read More:

I honestly wasn't expecting much out of this. So I was very suprised when I loved it from start to finish! It has everything we have come to expect of a classic Disney film.. a strong hero/heroine, a hilarious sidekick character, a great soundtrack and a beautiful display of animation. Yes, it really is a great film, with a powerful story and some great characters. Highly recommended.

So, then. The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. A tale with a decent reputation, a tale that has been well received by everyone else who's reviewed it so far. An 'oddball story', true, but one which commands far more respect within fandom than, say, Delta and the Bannermen. A difficult story to attack, one would say.

But really, it's tripe, isn't it?

OK, that's not entirely fair. 'Tripe' is a strong word, and it isn't one I'd attach to any Doctor Who story. But if I was forced to, really forced to, Greatest Show is without any doubt the one I would choose.

It's a shame, really, because it boasts some excellent features. Mike Morris above mentions the direction (at some length), and fair point, it's a well directed ... Read More:

I love this DVD and it is definitely my most watched drama. I hold it on a pedestal along with the BBC "Pride and Prejudice" drama. My teenage daughters were even won over by the series despite listening to me drone on about it for a few years before they watched it! And that was no mean feat!

I have posted a short review of the novel on this site, but actually it was the DVD that I watched first and this inspired me to read the book. I actually prefer the slight alteration to the story as featured on the DVD (with author approval). I cannot recommend the DVD or book enough.

This is the most enjoyable fishing video or series i have ever watched. I have owned this since mid-90's and still love watching it 13 years later! The knowledge, fun and humour makes it thoroughly inspiring and makes you want to get back out onto the bank. Filled with the philosophy of why man loves to fish and reminds you of childhood memories. A must buy!! A+++
Chris Yates and Bob James rule!

VHS : Bugsy Malone [1976]
I watched this film at various stages throughout my life and still have a soft spot for Bugsy Malone. Jodie Foster is and always has been one of my favourite actresses and this is the film I first saw her in. Remember when Babyface says 'get Babyface..I am Babyface' who incidentally is a British actor called Dexter Fletcher and has been in many television productions and films more famously in Lock Stock as Soap. The British actors seem to have done more with their lives than the American ones.....please correct me if I'm wrong. I wont mind...

This film is never outdated, should still be 'allowed' by the PC Brigade and no doubt be watched a few generations down the line. The actors were outstanding for their age and for the time and the whole thing was ... Read More:

To be honest I am not an avid fan of the Sylvester McCoy era but this story, Remembrance and Survival are the only exceptions.

Before I even watched this I had high hopes for it because it oversees the introduction of Ace, one of my fave companions. This story gives her a good introduction and by the time of Survival it's nice to see how much she has matured from here.

The story itself is actually quite good and has plenty of twists and a cast of strong guest characters.

Sylvester McCoy puts on a pretty average performance as the good Doctor (then again to be fair it is the end of only his first season). However Bonnie Langford is diabolical as Mel and makes me releived that this is her final story. Tony Selby mainly steals the show ... Read More:
