VHS : Doctor Who - Planet Of The Spiders [1974]
Every time I watch this one, it starts off superb but then by episode four it starts to collapse. Patrly because the Metebelis Three people are so stupid and can't act. There are mostly good speical effects all along, and the regeneration is fairly standard, but female spiders?

VHS : Carousel [1956]
Regarded by many as the best Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, it still manages to pack a punch after all these years. Most people will probably already be familiar with the hymn-like standard 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but there are plenty of other gems here that are worth tuning in for. Fans of Frank Sinatra may recognise Billy's 'Soliloquy'. The scene on the beach where Gordon McRae belts it out is now a movie musicals' classic. My personal favourite is the beautifully tender duet 'If I Loved You', a song so loaded with the promise of romance and deeply felt regret all at the same time - surely (or Shirley??) one of the best love songs in any Broadway repertoire.
Another of the musical's high points comes with the opening 'Carousel ... Read More:

I agree with the last reviewer. This is a series which I made a point of watching. The faultless cast includes a young Ewan McGregor and the excellent Roy Hudd. It must be over 10 years since I've seen it and I'd like to watch it again. Shame there is no DVD release as yet.

I don't completely agree with the person who said it was a good plot ect. I love Animorphs, but the movies are just totally wrong. :( I mean, I'm not just bothered by the fact that it's totally not like in the books. What also bothers me is that there's scenes that are just ridiculous and make no sense. For example, Visser Three keeps morphing to human for no reason at all. Like, when they've captured Rachel in cat morph, why does Visser Three morph to human? After all, he thinks he's dealing with an Andalite here, and there are no real humans around from which he would have to hide his Andalite form or something. So why would he bother morphing into a two-legged human, while looking at an Andalite prisoner? And in the part where the Animorphs save ... Read More:

I have recently bought all three videos and I think they are all terrific. Especially video one. Charlie and Caroline are a great couple, well suited. I just love the programme. Tom. Jo and Laura are excellent as well. Everyone just seems to get on so well together.

VHS : The Rescuers (Disney) [1977]
I write these reviews for the Disney classic's not as I have something short to do, but as I re-discovered all my old Disney tapes under my bed, in practical mint condition too. And so, for the 3rd Sunday night in succession, I continued to go back to my childhood!
The Rescuers is perhaps Disney's finest example of how to warm your heart without the perils of 'Disney-fication' (in other words, very cheesey!). But not only this, it may have been a peak for the innocence of the audience at the time. I say this only because I'm disillusioned with kids films these days that rely on 'a joke a minute' to make it a hit. And indeed, critics these days do review Pixar/Disney films of humour - not quality of the outcome.
And for this, The Rescuers ... Read More:

1: Tom Baker is excellent as the deranged Xoanon

2: Louise makes a brilliant entrance as Leela

3: The horda are cute.

4: The tesh are gits, but likeable ones, with their arm flapping!

5: Tom is great as ever as the Doc too.

6: The tribe have more developed characters than usual.

7: Great comic moments, especially how Leela runs into the TARDIS despite the Doc not really wanting to take her.

8: We for once get a sizeable chunk of story to see whats happened after the enemy has been thwarted, which is a nice change.

9: the staue looks impressive.

10: Good actual 25 min eps for a change!

Need I go on?

VHS : The Charge Of The Light Brigade [1968]
Even in its abused, neglected state (hence the four-star rating instead of five) Richardson's "Charge of the Light Brigade" is still a fantastic piece of cinema and a sadly overlooked classic in the same league as the wonderful "Oh, What a Lovely War". At a time when most modern young British directors regularly churn out terrible mockney gangster flicks, wet rom-coms or stagnant period dross it seems such a shame that this bold example of British cinema should suffer such a fate. Sir David Puttnam even recently stated how extremely angry he was that Light Brigade remains completely ignored as the quality piece of cinematic art that it obviously is.

Richardson himself had planned this film as his masterpiece but became so disillusioned with the reaction ... Read More:
