VHS : Sleeping Beauty [Disney 1959]
This is my favourite Disney movie. The backgrounds are detailed and stylised like a series of medieval tapestries. The intergration of the characters in what look like the best sets ever designed for a semi-swashbuckling musical/comedy/thriller is stunning.
I still get frightened when the fire goes out and Maleficent appears to tempt Aurora through the back of the fireplace (Maleficent being a truly evil villainess). The score is superbly used in these scenes. Brilliant stuff.

VHS : The Little Mermaid [1990]
This was the first video I ever bought as a child and it's still one of my favourites. It's Disney's best film. The songs are fantastic and the story of Ariel, a mermaid who just wants to be a human and expereince all the things humans do, is brilliant.

17 years on from it's original release and the Little Mermaid is as good as it ever was. A must-see film for everyone!

I do not get why so many people consider this to be 'best Disney movie ever.' For me, it was never one of my favourites. It's not really bad, but I do not consider it to be that good either, especially when compared to Walt's earlier efforts such as Snow White. To be honest, I feel that some of Disney's so-called 'dark age' efforts such as The Rescuers are better than this.

The animation is alright-ish. The backgrounds are beautiful but seem rather scratchy and flat. There are a few zany sequences, but not really enough to keep me entertained. There is hardly any plot, and most of it doesn't even stay true to the book. It's a shame, because there were some wonderful characters that had real potential. The character development was the only real strong point ... Read More:

I've always been reluctant of sequels especially the Disney ones. They've never sounded as good.

However we recieved this second hand and my sister decided to watch it..Out of interest once reading the case I decided to sit and watch through it and I was surprised to find it was not as bad as I thought it might.

I do love follow up stories, if they are done properly and this was done very well. An enjoyable follow up to the original and sounds better than the third and some of Disney's latest work. I love story by all accounts, which means it treads the same lines but the history and the consequences of that history is what makes it worthwhile, as is Timon and Pumba who are still as funny if not moreso.

The artwork from what I see is ... Read More:

For any dancer this is brilliant!!!!! The characters are cleverly developed, showing dancers of different abilities, shapes and sizes! Liza minelli portrays Mavis who has been let down by the west end - yet finds a new career in teaching dance. Its a must see!

VHS : The Sound Of Music [1965]
If "West Side Story" was the best musical film of the sixties, then "The Sound of Music," adapted from the long-running Broadway musical play about Maria Von Trapp and her singing family, was certainly the most popular...

With a story that includes the right amount of family sentiment (the Von Trapp children never quarrel among themselves), religion (in the Hollywood tradition of serene, kind nuns), romance (actually two romances, one adult, one adolescent), and anti-Nazi feeling (Captain Von Trapp refuses to surrender to the Nazi invaders)--and with director Robert Wise who is in fact a solid, conscientious craftsman and a fluent story-teller mercifully free of grandiose pretensions, "The Sound of Music" is perfect with its sumptuous location photography, immaculate, fluid ... VHS : Mary Poppins (1964) (Disney) [1965]
In this film, the Banks family suffer from the typical problems of a family in 1910. Mr George Banks (David Thomlinson) is too wrapped up in his work at the bank to notice his children, Jane and Michael, who always seems to be in trouble. He thinks that his life is perfect and at one. Then Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews) shows up and proves him wrong.
From jumping through chalk pavement pictures to bringing life to the Banks household, Mary Poppins is the best nanny.
The animated sequence is pure Disney (I like the cute Irish fox, myself.) The penguin dance is particularly memorable.
And you'll be all over the ceiling as you laugh with funny Uncle Albert (Ed Wyn)!
Julie Andrews is brilliant as Mary Poppins. She has a great voice and some of the musical numbers are quite moving. ... Read More:
