I remember watching this at the age of six, and being amazed at how well... amazing it is. Watch out for the bit on the motorway... it's very moving!

VHS : Small Sacrifices [1988]
I worked on this trial as a member of the judicial staff in Oregon, so have personal experience of Diane Downs, the witnesses, prosecutor and defense counsel. Like everyone else, I was very dubious when I heard that a film was scheduled for production. I was very surprised that when the film was released, it was a very accurate reflection of what I witnessed in the six-week trial. In fact, the film of the trial was less dramatic than the trial itself, especially when daughter Christie testified, which remains the most dramatic moment I have ever witnessed. Farrah Fawcett did a superb job, although to this day I don't know why she adopted a southern accent, when Diane doesn't speak this way. If you have read Ann Rule's book of the same name, ... VHS : Oliver [1968]
You know this classic story by now of the boy who asked for more...Oliver Twist played touchingly in the best version on celluloid by Mark Lester...He is one of many workhouse orphans lead by the authoritarian Mr Bumble (Harry Secombe) who decides to sell Oliver to a local Funeral Director in the form of (Leonard Rossiter) of Rising Damp fame. Oliver escapes from here after a fight only to find himself making his way to 19th Century London where he befriends "The Artful Dodger" (Jack Wild) a steetwise pick pocket who takes Oliver for shelter to the affable professional pick pocket Fagin (Ron Moody) whose role probably will be remembered for a most fantastic performance. Here Oliver comes to know Fagin in an touching way.Oliver learns of his past ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who - Battlefield [1989]
I had heard a lot of bad things about Battlefield. Fortunately, they were all wrong.
Battlefield is a very light, fluffy Doctor Who adventure. It isn't as much 'Who for 9 year olds', as someone claimed. The writer tries to have a bit of fun with the characters, and in doing so makes a interesting, and even sometimes dark, story.

So ignore those nay-sayers. Battlefield is a treat.

VHS : Doctor Who - Silver Nemesis (The Extended Version) [1988] [1963]
It's hard to believe that "Silver Nemesis" got less than 5 stars average rating. This is an exceptionally good show, especially when you consider that it comes from the Sylvester McCoy era, where most shows were real stinkers! The lovely and attractive Ace is certainly a welcome addition, and the contrasting dialog between her and the Silver Nemesis sent chills up my spine. When Ace says, "Catch you later" to the Silver Nemesis, it's both funny and scary because we know Ace didn't know what to say. If you were faced with the Silver Nemesis you wouldn't know what to say either. It gives us a sense that these characters are very much out of time from each other, and have come together to do what they are suppose to do. Not everyone enjoys this form of ... Read More:

VHS : Doctor Who - The Trial Of A Timelord
This is a bit of a mixed bag of stories from 1986. By this time the original series had long past its peak and was just about ready to be rested. Colin Baker is a fine actor who gives good performances throughout these episodes. It's a pity he didn't have better storylines (and a better outfit) to work with!
The first two stories - The Mysterious Planet and Mindwarp are disappointing. Nicola Bryant's Peri makes her exit from the series at the end of episode 8 and it's all a bit of a mess. (She is later seen briefly at the end of episode 14).
The final two stories are a little better. Terror of the Vervoids is a fine suspenseful story, which for some brief moments brings back memories of some of the classic stories from the earlier periods of ... Read More:

I take no notice of the ridiculous negative reviews from people simply trying to bring some kind of attention from themselves and having just watched these 3 films back-to-back since they appeared on the big screen I enjoyed them just the same in the comfort of my own home. Superb acting, screenplay, direction, production - everything.Undoubtedly,Elijah Wood showed his true colours with his unrequited love interest Sean Astin which must surely go down as the greatest romance in cinema history since Ali McGraw died on Ryan O'Neal all those years ago.

Me too!! I loved this as a child and have actually still got it on tape, but it's a very bad copy and would love to buy it on DVD. My favourite part is when Rene Fromage is chasing the gold medal through the streets of Paris etc. "And now the race is won, and there's nothing left to do, alone again but where are you... Alone again, but where are yooooooooou." Love it. Need it on DVD immediately.
