I love this game, it is excellent, if you don't have the game yet, then buy this enhanced edition, don't even think about it, put it in the basket.

But there just isn't enough in this update to justify a new game price for existing owners. I bought it to support the developers but have now been struck by what I can only conceive as cynical marketing. I really resent now being made to pay for a work in progress.

I have my receipt and am seriously considering taking the thing back and updating through the download - most of the changes are to faulty parts of the game. Two new adventures yes, but not part of the overall game, and not justification for the price tag.

HOWEVER, I must say again, the Witcher ... Read More:

There is nothing wrong with the graphics, or the music, nor are there any glitches that made the game unplayable, but none the less I did not enjoy this game as much as I thought I would.

Like all games, it's only really fun for a short time, but this time was very short indeed. It did, however, give me enough enjoyment to make it worth paying the small price of £3, which I do not understand at all, and only 6 months ago I payed about 10 times that price.

The Baldur's Gate series are probably the best and most fun games I have ever played. It brought to life - with amazing clarity and thought - the Forgotten Realms world in a way that will keep you coming back for more and more and more. The story is brilliant, the game is infinitely playable (and indeed replayable) and the depth of the game is massive.

The basic premise is that you take a character - a warrior or wizard or priest - on a quest in a fantasy world. There is a main storyline which runs throughout the games, but with many opportunities to get sidetracked to help (or indeed hinder) the characters you run into.

These days, the 45 degree viewpoint may look a little dated, and the graphics are certainly nothing ... Read More:

I'm not going to go into too much detail here, because it's mostly to be found in the other reviews.

But basically, this is a great game with most of the character and charm of forgotten realms games that have came before, but is rendered almost unplayable by the shoddy cameras, the lack of control, the moronic AI and many glitches that include the game refusing to start if it doesn't detect 128MB of graphics memory (which it often doesn't detect even if you do have it). The patches that were released do very little to improve on these, but the Mask of the Betrayer expansion pack fixes these much as a patch would be expected to and turns the game into something entirely more playable, into something that fans of the series should have been given in ... I am quite frankly amazed that there are people who don't like this. The story is superb, keeping you hooked throughout. The only story that you could compare it to would be that of the legendary Baldur's Gate 2, and we all know how good that was.

Do not be put off by the occasional person moaning about bugs and the like. I personally have never experienced a major bug with either this or the original game, and any potential bugs have been significantly ironed out with the latest patches.

Finally, I would also recommend you get this simply so you can access even more of the community material. There are some simply fantastic modules out there, and you won't want to miss out on them. My only gripe with this and the original game is that the ... Read More:

Video Games : The Witcher (PC DVD)
I really wanted to like The Witcher, but it took a lot of effort. I bought the game in April, and had to pick it up again a few times - only finishing it five months later. The game isn't too demanding on your PC - although it can slow when you have a *lot* on the screen (this really only happens a few times) - but the downside of this is that it looks a lot like Neverwinter Nights 2 (same graphics engine), which is a bit dated today.

Annoyingly, the enormous spells, combat, potions, oils and bombs-based RPG doesn't come with a printed manual - it's on pdf. Cheap old game manufacturers, eh? It kind of spoils the game, and you end up making a lot of notes, but it'd be really nice to have something to refer back to.

Overall, the setting is nicely ... Read More:

Now I might be a masocist, but I loved the game. Yes I have lost many an hour trying to drive to Central Park, but I can now do it it 2 or 3 trys now (and aint I proud lol) and going round the park killing deadly trees does take up time (specially when I hadn't worked out I could use the GPS in the menu... duh!) But in all it is strangely satisifying to complete, they always say the best things are worth fighting for *tries not to put tongue in cheek*

I think the reason I loved it... apart from great graphics, story.. yadda yadda yadda, is that it actually takes you time to master the control and to complete. I am fed up of games that take me 2 days to finish and I haven't once wanted to throw my console out of the window.... Alone in the Dark makes you want to ... Read More:
