One thing I'd like to mention - especially with regard to the entry for Cardigan - what time of year was the review done in? - as Cardigan on a cold wet evening in mid May is fairly desperate - especially with the current credit crunch/recession - with about a third of the high street dead & dusted; how log ago was it? - which I think the previous entry cover - and with regards to the B&B I stayed in - had they actually stayed in a single room at any of the places listed? - in this particular instance the en-suite barely having and room to swing the proverbial feline - and the bed being really only fit for a child as it was that narrow.

I bought this book as a gift for my cousin who is very interested in the history of our country, Wales.

I am pleased with the book as it is an ideal gift and gives facts about our country in the regional format.

If anyone is interested in history and especially in Wales then this is a concise and interesting book to have.

This book is a delight. We use it as a coffee table item, to be picked up and enjoyed at spare moments, a purpose it serves admirably. The entire book is very informative - even for those of us who live in the Principality. It is very well organised, and beautifully illustrated. Whether one is a visitor or a resident in this wonderful country, if you have any desire to learn more about the place, you will enjoy this.

1. No accurate address and post code of sites.
2. Phone numbers of sites are without prefix, if you're not local you will never know how to call them.
3. Importent sites are missing (even when there is a review of the area, somethimes it just doesn't direct you where to go).
4. Cheap editing, the editor wanted the earn few extra pence and gathered the pictures into groups of pages. The outcome - you can read about a place and then try to find a picture somewhere in the book, if there is one (instead of having the picture next to the site description). I wouldn't mind to pay an extra pound in order to see where I'm going...

Luckily, I have found few nice places online and the most importene thing - the Welsh have very good ... Read More:

The Rough Guide to Wales (Rough Guide Travel Guides)
An excellent guide.
Very comprehensive coverage. As with all other Rough Guides I have used, this one packs an astounding amount of information into its 570 pages. It is well structured and indexed and easy to use on-the-move. It is, in my opinion, well illustrated, that is to say not over-illustrated at the expense of information. Those seeking a glossy travel guide may be disappointed by the Rough Guide approach which is to provide a set of appetite-whetter photos in the "Introduction" and "Things not to miss" sections at the front, but for the main body of the guide, illustrations consist primarily of such things as clear town plans and detailed local area maps, with a relatively small ... Side-splitting funny - and so true

This is a fantastic book, looking at real life pictures from the seventies. It's the type of book you can read over and over again and really enjoy the pictures that seem to come to life as you look at them.

Beautifully written, this book evokes a Wales that hardly lives up to Jan Morris's descriptions (wet Bank Holiday in Borth, anyone?). Nevertheless, it provides an understanding of Wales and the Welsh that may otherwise be lacking in many an English (or Scots, or Irish) reader. It's certainly an easier read than I at first anticipated and I read it through quite happily without feeling the need to skip.

My children love horrible histories and this continues that tradition - but
just on a personal note
page 153 it confuses descendants with predecessors and then gets the descendant wrong - Rhodri Morgan First Minister is not a direct descendant of John Morgan - I am a descendant of John Morgan and he wasn't deported to Australia - that's why I live in the UK presumably.Maybe I'm nit picking!
but excellent otherwise and may it get readers to challenge assertions and facts.
