Computer : Intel Q6600 Core2 Quad 2.4GHz Processr - Retail 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache, Quad Core

On purchasing a new computer last year this impressive chip came as standard and so far i have not been able to push it to its limits.

Its a chip that deserves high end components to reap the benefits and these include a top end Motherboard that first of all will accept the chip aswell as a decent Graphics card possibly from the Envidia 8000 series.

This really is a chip that will reward you aslong as your other components are up to the task.It will certainly be a bad investment if the rest of your computer struggles to impress.

All the Core Duo and Quad intel chips are designed for enthusiats who really push their system to the limit through gaming and such like but in general web surfing it is hardly ... Read More:

I wasn't really sure about AMD to start with. I Bought a an athalon 64x2 4500+ processor and that was OK. A bit slow i must say however it ran both windows vista32bit and 64bit with no problem. I then thought of going back to intel when i stumbled upon the 6000+. It was a good buy, Cheaper than intel. The upgrade was no problem. One processor our the other in. I didnt have to reinstall windows or anything. Instant detection by vista..... The only thing i advise is. ... invest in windows 64 bit because 32 bit only handles 3BG ram.... and thats not fair on this marvellous processor.

Have this in my new gaming PC along with the 8800GTX gpu, 2GB of 800mhz ram on a socket AM2 motherboard. All works well and runs at warp speed compared to my dusty old Dell. Got the new PC a few months ago so obviously there's faster stuff out there now, but this CPU is still among the top 10 CPU's on tomshardware.com and is far cheaper than the equivalent Intel number.

Overall I'd recommened this to anyone buying a PC for 'normal use' to slightly more advanced use involving occassional gaming. However, if you do a lot of gaming, particularly online it might be an idea to wait for the new AMD 'Phenom' CPU's to come out as they're bound to be extremely powerfull and cheaper than Intel.

I have upgraded my Dell 521 CPU, AMD 5000+ to this AMD 6400+ and my vista score went from 5.2 to 5.5. Using internet, opening files and media playback didn't show the full out of it but game playing significantly improved somewhat. I would imagine that if you use this CPU with Windows XP rather than Vista, it would be much better. I play games with an ATI HD graphic and it works fine. The word 'fine' exactly fits in. I don't have any complaints.
But I would recommend to buy black edition rather, not because you want to overclock it(no point in overclocking anyway), but because the blackedition is designed to deal with hot temperatures. But either you chose, you need to have a good heat sink. It's quite hot anyway so have a look at heatsinks. ... Read More:

Upgraded my PC this week and i purchased the Athlon X2 4800+ 2.5Ghz processor. this processor is worth every penny as i have upgraded from a AMD LE1600 2.2Ghz single core processor and the performance increase was unbeleavable and also video encoding and the ability to play HD-DVD and Blu Ray without any problems.. well worth paying the extra cash for this processor
