For me the big debate is over, I finally know what Webcam to buy & recommend. This is THE webcam to get. I spent months browsing reviews, articles & opinions wondering which Webcam to get, all products, including this one, seem to get mixed reviews. I was still uncertain but needed to buy and went for the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000. The comments about image quality from the Carl Zeiss Lens swayed it for me. I don't regret it at all. I did initially have a minor Vista64 Install issue where after installing the included software I could no longer see my networked PCs in windows explorer. I could still access them but not see them. After reading through the reviews I was looking forward to receiving this little webcam. It is small but very fiddly. It wont last long. I am sorry that I did not go for one a bit more robust. That said, it is one of the problems about buying online - you dont get to handle the goods. There seems to be a lot of dropped frames on 2 machines with 1gb and 2 gb ram. Not recommended.

I had a Trust webcam for 7 odd years so decided to get a new one to go with Windows Vista. I only use a webcam for conversations on MSN messenger, so I wasn't looking for anything fancy. Just something that gives a clear picture and is easy to set up. This was all of those things. So if like me you just want something basic that gives a good quality picture then this webcam will suit your needs.

Bought from Amazon for £14 or so after reading reviews. I have Windows XP Home Edition. Loaded software OK but on plugging in the Found Hardware Wizard said Error file not located. However, it did work the first time but on restarting PC it didn't, and wasn't detected thereafter. I tried everything including menu help, hardware help, uninstall reinstalled, do this do that umpteen times, emailed Microsoft, no reply, forum here, no response so in the end just gave up. Hardware help said it may be to do with the fact I previously had a Logitech webcam and to download the latest software then try it. Still nothing. Works fine on a Mac (Mac OS 10.4.11) except that the microphone doesn't work. There's a note on Sogatel's website that says the microphone is not compatible with Macs. Fortunately I don't want to use the microphone. I got it up and running in a moment once I'd visited the Sogatel website and downloaded the drivers - there are no Mac drivers in the box but there's a leaflet telling you where to get them. Configuring it to run with Skype seemed simple - though you do need to quit the Skype application and restart it before it recognises there's a camera available.

Looks ok doesn't it? Not bad looking, and judging by the spec with the high resolution and video quality - for a webcam in this price range...a bargain. How wrong...how very wrong. Basically, the picture quality is just about bearable and mine came with a pixel shaded red as it goes but there you go... And then we move onto the microphone. Oh deary dear. It is constantly buzzing and fuzzing and about any other adjective ending with the letters 'zzing'you can think of. You were thinking of buying this to video call on MSN or Skype? I like this webcam; it arrived the next day I ordered and installation was very easy. Within 15 minutes I able to get on Skype. If you use Skype then this is best camera. I am giving one star less because from item description I got assumption that I am getting two mics one inbuilt into camera and another in the headphone included. However there was no inbuilt mic. Headphone is good enough for conversations; not meant for music.

In short it does what it says it does. I have had other cameras but this one is as close to plug and play that i have seen. The microphone on it is superb, and can track a voice some 6 to 7ft away effectively. for me its an essential put-in-the-bag for my business trips

When I eventually got it working (the installation CD was scratched, so I had to download the driver from the manufacturer's site) it did what it said on the box. One problem is that the cable splits into microphone jack and camera USB plugs,about 6" from the end, so if your USB and mic ports are not next to each other (they aren't on my laptop) you have to decide between being seen or being heard. In the end I used another mic. The fact that lights can't be switched off is an annoyance too, as others have said. It's mighty cheap, so I suppose I shouldn't complain, but its only just adequate value for money.
