What a fantastic value replacement multi function home office printer. I bought this printer to replace my Dell A960 all in one and it has not disappointed. I use this plugged into the back of my wireless router so now allows me to print wirelessly from my laptop without having the desk top on. Set up was straight forward, however even for network set up you must use a a USB lead connected to your main computer first - follow the instructions and you cannot go wrong. Replacement ink is not that expensive either, see Ink Fusion and you can get a set of replacement 5 tanks for around £40. Not sure how long the ink will last. I bought this printer as a replacement for the Epson R200 which was a fantastic photo printer for 4 years (until the print head started playing up). Having read loads of reviews singing the praises of the RX585, particularly for its photo printing quality, I opted for this model. What a disappointment! The photos I printed intially on glossy inkjet photo paper were very grainy in appearance and colours (especially black) were poorly matched to the actual colours, with the black printing as red. However, once I used Epson's own premimum glossy photo paper prints are perfect and would give photo labs a run for their money. I purchased Epson's R2880 to replace my trusty Epson 1270 photo printer which, after 9 years producing excellent prints finally gave up the ghost. I was keen to see what improvements had been made in 9 years of development. The printer is quite large but easy to assemble, and the software installation proceeded with no problems. Reviews say that the new printer interface is an improvement on the old one. I dissagree with this. It's still good, but not an improvement. So what were the first prints like ? A bit dissapointing - too washed out with weak colours. So I reduced the brightness and increased the contrast in the printer preferences and the results were then very good indeed. Does everything well. Had same low capacity issues with supplied cartridges but once changed got a large increase in amount of printed pages. Setup instructions are clear and very easy to follow. Overall very pleased.

I note in the reviews the difficulty some buyers have when contacting Canon. I agree the website for Canon for product support can be mystifying to say the least. I have several Canon products myself, ranging from the brilliant Pixma iP4200, to camcorders and scanners, so am well tested in the Canon 'contact' arena - I have always found the Canon Helpdesk (Freephone 00800 22666767) at PO Box 614 Borehamwood WD6 9AA to be very helpful. I hope this helps Amazon viewers/readers.

I bought this printer for it's compatability with Linux, and while initially I had troubles using it under Fedora Core 6 (x86_64), I found a cure to get round it at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=214189 . I tried it with a few other flavours of Linux including Suse 10.1 (x86_64), Ubuntu, and Knoppix and it worked straight away. Simply download the latest version of the driver from the Samsung website, and follow the instructions. The scanner also works fine and the copier does not even require a computer. The print quality is fantastic for my purpouses (student) and it's speed is very good for the price. It comes with a starter toner cartridge but no USB lead. After doing research on the internet I finally decided to go for the HP C6280. I have been an HP fan since I started with computers 12 years ago. My workhorse 840C was finally rebelling and I had to make a decision. Some people reported difficulty setting up the machine so I went along with the idea that I would follow the instructions faithfully, which I did. However I couldn't get passed the Install Hardware Wizard however hard I tried. After 4 hours of uninstalling previous HP items, reinstalling the C6280, or trying to, I finally e-mailed HP for help.
