I've been considering buying an MP3 player for a while and the range of functionality of the Ipod attracted my attention every time - as well as the large hard drive. However by the time I'd decided to buy the 160GB model had gone out and the new 120GB model had come into the market. No matter, 120GB is still a lot of memory and even after several years my 250GB computer hard drive is well under a quarter full, so I decided to go ahead.

It's a lovely piece of kit. The screen is very clear though it does take finger marks rather readily - you'll probably need a screen protector though I found that buying a case wasn't necessary.

Now as to volume - I should say that I'm already severely deaf and have to use rather unusual ... Read More:

The player is great, no fault there. Im happy with my 8GB version, but very dissappointed that music and image on the SD card (when installed) don't appear in the players music or image library.
Reason; The built-in memory is in a library format whilst the SD card is a FAT file format. The 'very nice' music and file menu of the player does not see the SD card content, you must browse the SD card filesystem seperatly to find the files you wish to use, and browsing is not like finding an album, or playing a playlist.
So, you can play music and view images off the SD card, but its not like using an mp3 players library as the typical mp3 player features apply only to the content of the build in memory, not to the SD cards file system.

I have to say I was shocked when I first saw the video quality on this little device - it really is crystal clear. There are other, cheaper, MP4 players on the market with a bigger screen but none have the quality this has.

The battery life is very good allowing me to watch several 2 hour long films without having to charge - something you'll be grateful for on a long-haul flight.
The video format has to be specifically MP4 but its easy to find programs to convert DVD's and such into this format so its not a problem.

Aside from video, the sound and music is brilliant both with the supplied in-ear headphones or with your own choice (a good set will bring out the best it can offer). Menus are easily navigated and playlists, albums, songs etc ... Read More:

ipod shuffle is still an ipod but it lacks feature that are most mp3 players.
1. There is no display screen
2. There is no way to check the battery life

However the quality of the music is better that most mp3 players making it useful.

If you can extend your money buy a nano, classic or even a touch.

I can't help but ask: What does the 4th generation ipod nano have which makes it better than its predecessor?

The size and styling harks back to the much earlier ipod nano's. This was obviously something which apple then moved on from with the sleek but "chunky" styling of the 3rd gen. models.

Screen - On these 4th gen. versions, the screen is exactly the same dimensions as the previous model, except it is curved. I don't understand this - over the past ten years or so, all of our screens have been moving away from the curved thing, because we all know that curved screens = more reflection = less easy viewing. One of the style and practical features of all ipods was always the flat screen.

The "shake and shuffle" feature - which means that surely ... Read More:

They made ipods more techical over the years. When I first put my ipod in I was asked to create an itunes account which luckly I already had one so that was easy. They promised voice recording I don't see that on the menu of my ipod. Screen too small for video I don't know why nano went video anyway as the ipod classic can do that and it's better on it. I also didn't accept my ipod charger which worked on my 1st gen nano and even touch. This doesn't just apply to blue 8GB nanos, it applies to all 4th gen ipod nanos.

Computer : Apple iPod Touch 8GB
I bought my iPod touch last Christmas and fell in love with it immedietly. However... now, after just nine or ten months it has already started to 'play up'. It pauses randomly and sometimes i can see the time slider going through a song but no sound. i took it back to the apple shop, they put the new updates on it (free of charge i'd like to say ;)) but i still have the same problem i.e keeps pausing randomly.
i would suggest that you don't buy the iPod touch as i am completely convinced that mine will stop working altogether JUST after my one year gurantee runs out. proof of this: my friend and her sister both bought an iPod on the same day last year and just after their one year gurantee ran out... they both stopped working within hours of each other. many others i've spoken with have ... bought this after reading reviews. I was not disappointed. I am still finding things it will do.I use it mainly for podcasts (the sound is so clear} but I have photos and videos stored too.The SD card facility is an amazing way of storing info. and I find the radio excellent. It does more than it says 'on the tin' !
