I have been unable to load up my Zen from my PC so all I have been able to use it for so far is as a very expensive fm radio! I successfully loaded the software which comes with the player onto my PC including connecting the Zen as instructed. That's where the problem stated. An Add New Hardware wizard appeared. I ran it but it ended with the message that there was a problem and the hardware could not be installed. A Found Hardware balloon then appeared to be followed by the Add Hardware wizard again. Cancelling that just led to the same circle of events happening again and again until the Zen was disconnected from the PC. Looking at the Forums it appears that many users have experienced connection and transfer problems of one sort or another ... Read More:

I bought this for my daughter (11) as she was keen on it. Despite the 'glamour' of iTunes and Apple itself (and being PC literate), we find navigating transfers (music and movies) really quite frustrating, with required 'ejections' etc and songs not synching properly in an intuitive sense. It is surprisingly much less intuitive than I expected (-iRiver's Drag and Drop is SO much simpler and effective). After several days, we still find video transfers erratic and had to do manual transferring to get it onto the iPod (then we lost what was already synced, though warned somewhere). Moreover, I got Apple's "white screen of death" at the very beginning and had to reset the iPod to solve the defect (losing our first data). There is a measly manual with the packaging ... I was bought an iPod 16gb for christmas, my first MP3 player. It was a generous gift but my wife only bought it because she liked the gimmicky photo rotation trick. Even that does not work properly sometimes - angling the photo at right angles to how I want to see it. As a music player i don't think it is anything special - maximum volume can come across as quite quiet on some recordings. It's a pain to adjust the volume while playing music: first press the menu button, then slide finger across screen to activate controls then adjust volume setting. Not exactly as simple as rotating a wheel on an iPod classic!
Video picture quality is good, but fast forwarding and rewinding is tricky to control since the scroll bar is so small you can only slide it to within an ... Read More:

I spent a long time resisting the lure of the iPod, thinking that those who worshipped them were confusing the container with its contents. I could see the point of being able to carry around all your music, but - having a fairly large collection - was all too aware of the limitations of the earlier models (and indeed of the early MP3 players). In addition, they just seemed too darned expensive for what they did. Of course, advances in technology and fashion increased the capacity and decreased the price, with the result that this, the larger of the two 6th generation models, currently represents the best value for money as regards space. What's more, it looks as if this won't change very much in the future: with the advent of the iPhone and its touch interface, it's unlikely that the ... Read More:

Why some people choose to dismiss this player or moan about it's lack of features is beyond me! It's simply brilliant! I use mine purely for the gym, so where else could you expect to get 250 tunes on an mp3 player which is lightweight can clip on your pocket and not even know it's there and not have to worry about breaking it? I used to take my 30gig ipod with me to the gym and after it falling off the equipment so many times and bearing in mind it usually fell onto something made of cast metal, not ideal really when you have a screen to break! So the fact that it doesn't have a screen is a bonus for me cos it's less to worry about and why are you ever likely to want more than 100 let alone 250 tunes on it when you can simply change them anytime you like on itunes. I just load them on press ... Read More:

I bought this Zen player just over a month ago and so far have only had to charge it twice. Once when i took it out of the box and once since then. This MP3 is a brilliant piece of kit with a brilliant battery life.

I have had an Ipod nano and an Ipod video and also an Iriver and a sony and now the Zen. I have to say for value for money nothing comes close to the Zen. The only downside to the Zen was that they knocked the price down just after I got it.

It is small, thin fits right in your pocket and looks great. Now to the main bit, the sound quality and video quality on the zen is the same as any ipod, (better maybe for sound quality). It is so much easier to handle and put music onto the Zen as you do not even need the installation CD. You can take it out of the ... Read More:

Sony NWZA828K 8GB Video Walkman with wireless headphonesWell, I have read the gripes about the new ipod players, namely the new sound chips that fail to impress, the poor volume, the crashes, the lousy earphones, poor battery life and the tie-in with itunes. If you want to watch endless videos on a small screen then I suppose the ipod classic will store all you can ever need BUT if you want to listen to super clear music then go for the new sony. The volume limiter you can just switch off and then the sound can blow you away. The standard earphones are amazing- they even dont fall out AND also included are the blutooth cordless headphones, you can even control the player remotely from these headphones. Battery life is the best you can find. Get your music from anywhere and just drag it into the ... Read More:

I have both ipod classic and ipod nano, to be frank none of the ipods come near to walkman MWZA816B, the sound is superb and of very high qaulity, the earbud which come with it is excellent, I even tried it with pro-headphone, without noticing any fault in music qaulity. stick to sony's earphones and you will be better of. if you have small library of albums the 816 is the right set for you.
I hope you will enjoy your unit the way I enjoy mine.

I was about to buy yet another IPOD, grimacing about spending anything upwards of £50.00. When lamenting about being locked into Itunes, again, a friend suggested one of these. An MP3 player, Radio, Voice recorder and it requires NO special software!! Get one and forget your Itunes frustrations forever. Excellent value for money.

If you're the sort who likes to have their gadjets big enough to flaunt or so you can easily bore your fellow Dan Dare reading chums with the latest stuff then the Shuffle may not do the trick. It does not have a screen or a keyboard and it doesn't make tea in the morning. Smaller than a matchbox or book of stamps, and clipping on to your clothes, it simply delivers top level music (shuffled or unshuffled) for someone with a moderate desire for their library. And it does it for around thirty quid.

Its limitations are clearly size of library, and then there's finding it if you've put it down somewhere. Other than that, it is spot on.
