I bought the Philips 1gb as I was looking for something to tide me over until I'd either saved up or made up my mind on something bigger and flashier. The price stood out by a mile. It's got a great little screen. I'm using it mainly on a bus to work so the sound quality isn't that much of an issue really but it's pretty good anyway. I copied all the songs that were on my iTunes playlist (approx 75) and that does me for the amount of time I use it. The shuffle feature makes sure I don't get bored. For under £23 who could argue. I'm seriously thinking of not bothering with any other MP3 player.

Along with others at first I thought this was a super player great sound easy to use it even feels nice! But after three months the navigation button stopped working making it impossible to select tracks so the thing is useless, shame really.

The touch screen is insensitive and unresponsive. Appears to emulate buttons - so no 'dragging sliders' for volume control, video position etc. Music & video searching works - but only just. Bundled games are almost unplayable. Computer failed to detect device until I replaced the supplied usb cable with a better one, and even then will not detect properly on 1 out 3 connections. FM reception very poor, could barely find two uk stations on auto search. Claims support for XviD, AVI, MP4, but only after conversion on a PC using the bundled software - even some of my XviD avi files needed conversion before they would play. No album covers support for music, just folder / name listing - thus, the TFT panel display would appear to be wasted. Sound quality ... Read More:

I have bought two of these over the last couple of years for my sons, and they are still going strong. The drop on the price for this particular model to less than 40 quid has prompted me to finally get myself one. These machines are not quite the best and a little on the large side now compared to others. They can be a bit temperamental - but less so with the updated software. The fact that you can't play from folders is a bit of a pain, and they use a non standard (i.e NOT iPOD) connection at the machine end (standard USB at the PC end). So why have I purchased 3 of them? Well it's primarily because it's not an iPod, - so no iTunes DRM nonsense. I mostly prefer drag and drop - but you can use the wonderful and free Media Monkey software to synch, ... Read More:
