If your motherboard only takes the 20pin adapter then dont worry about buying the 24pin adapter, as with all new power supply's the 24pin end has the option to clip off the extra 4pins. Now if you've got a 24pin motherboard and a 20pin power supply then yes you will need a power supply adapter. Please if anyone reads this and disagrees and knows for a fac its wrong, then let me know as ive been running all my newly built pcs without the adapter and yet to have a problem.
