After struggling with a Tomtom 530T, the Garmin is an eye opener!! None of the bells and whistles of the Tomtom but it works. The maps are up to date, the bluetooth works perfectly and it doesn't crash. The traffic receiver is very useful and fast to download info.

Overall, a simple but effective satnav with accurate maps, lacking the features of the Tomtom, but unlike the Tomtom it actually works.

This is my first GPS product and I hate it. It has lots of features that I don't need. The three features that I do need; reliability, good battery life and clear mapping, it singularly fails to deliver. (Granted the last is partly down to the OS). Getting the maps onto it requires more passwords and registrations than you can shake a stick at. First time around, after I had spent hours struggling with this, it transpired that the machine was faulty and had to go back. They replaced it but forgot to tell me that this messes up all of those registrations etc. I'm no technophobe, and my son is a real junior gamer. He reckons that even the simple games on it were difficult to make sense of. This was a present, otherwise it would be sold-on a.s.a.p.. ... Read More:

Having used the TomTom V3 Europe for my bike for some time a 10 day trip to southern france was looming so i wanted a satnav that could do almost everything and was waterproof the the choice was obviously between the rider and the zumo.I had three days before my trip which included leading 7 other bikes down with me from sunny yorkshire around a 1000 mile trip in 2 days, after reading the reviews my choice was made to buy the rider unfortunatly everywere local to me was sold out and with only a day left to go my only other option was the zumo 550.The gps was simple enough to mount and was full of features not present on the tomtom but i can honestly say i liked the mapping on the tomtom better, saying that the zumo got us down to the border of spain ... An amazingly tiny unit not much more than a standard matchbox which even include a Li-ion battery identical to one in my Nokia phone.

As mentioned the 'manual' is near hopeless...simply a fold-out piece of paper of about 8 sides each about matchbox size(http://res.bluenext.co.uk/download/bn906.pdf), however...

The unit comes with a 12v and 240v power supply and connected to my laptop (Win XP SP2) and Toshiba Bluetooth stack without any problem. Windows did put it on COM41 which nothing would recognise, but some fiddling in Windows moved it to COM7 and it now works nicely with both Autoroute and a PC-based electronic chart plotter.

Contrary to what the 'manual' says, the Bluetooth light flashes when it's communicating ... Read More:

I purchased the unit a year ago and found it to be unreliable even in open land without trees around. It's so bad that I no longer bother to use it.

It frequently reports weak satellite signals. When it does so it brings up a messsage that you have to clear by pressing ENTER before it will restart to track. This is very difficult if you have both hands occupied riding a horse or cycle.

When it works it gives a good result.

Not at all recommended.

I bought the 770 for a two week trip to Southern California. I wanted an easy drive from LAX to the first hotel and for onward journeys. It was great. We did have paper maps to begin with, just to be on the safe side. By the end of the two week period we just started driving and then switched on the unit which soon picked up our route and guided us wherever we wanted to go. The Garmin (Jane) was even a source of entertainment with her prompts and orders. We did wonder whether when we returned home Jane might start to organize our life beyond navigation.

We have since had the unlock maps problem (the unit still worked)but sorted it in minutes. It is just a case of creating a text file that contains the unlock code on the website, once you have ... Read More:

This is my second Garmin satnav. The Nuvi 270 performs very well around Ireland, with excellent satellite tracking. The tinny voice is a bit annoying but that's the price for such a neat & portable unit. It has a simulation mode for planning your journeys abroad, and it is excellent at handling Points of Interest (POI) files.

The options for finding your location are very good, and include the option of directly entering the GPS co-ordinates. I look forward to the day when your local Yellow Pages includes GPS for all commercial locations.

When using the various search options, the results are displayed in the order of proximity which makes it easy to find the nearest restaurant, bank, or petrol station etc. There's an excellent ... Read More:
