Computer : TomTom ONE v3 Great Britain Traffic Edition

I found the device easy to use and very intuitive; it's software worked very well and the updates were very good..however.. the main reason I bought this unit, the ability to know what traffic is doing ahead of me and suggest detours, simply doesn't work.
The guy at Halfords helpfully informed me that it doesn't work in Surrey (which would have been great advice had it been given at the point of purchase!) and that because all manufacturers seem to be using TMC now there is No sat nav that can help.
The ONE has now been returned and I await developments with interest. (He mentioned digital units that should be available soon...?) I would advise everyone to check TMC in the the shop you buy it from (or just outside) - do you have ... Read More:

I was bought this tom tom as a birthday present & the battery does not last any more than 90 mins, so you constantly need to keep it plugged into the cigarette lighter. Tom Tom say the battery should last 4 hours. I have returned this unit back to Tom Tom 4 times now & it still is no better. they refuse to exchange it for a new one or refund the money. When I ring up they refuse to let me talk to a manager -their service is a absolute joke! I have been without it for about 8 weeks in total while they are supposedly repairing it. I have now given up on them & it & have thrown it in the bin where it belongs & am now looking for another make. I would not recommend anyone to buy one.TomTom Go 520 Music Edition with UK Mapping

I'd endorse the earlier 3 comments, although I've found the single ear headset plenty loud enough, even with my earplug inserted. This may be because I made a point of correctly locating the headset right next to my ear hole - the thin, flat single headset is retained in position by velcro "hooks" which come attached.

I found the "voice" distorted when set to 100% on the TomTom unit, but turning it down to 90% made it perfectly clear. At first, I'd thought the headset wasn't nearly loud enough, but when I adjusted the volume control on the bluetooth unit it was perfectly fine.

The headset proved very difficult to get into the narrow spaces inside my Shuberth S1 helmet, especially with the permanently attached velcro hooks. I had a brainwave ... Read More:

I bought this unit 3 weeks ago from Halfords for £99 and have used it almost everyday since. Its a very good example of using good technology to make a very user-friendly product. It was very easy to set-up straight out of the box and personalise after registering on the Garmin website.

Then Garmin sent me a map update CD which I connected to the unit via my laptop and let the CD installer do its job. In the middle of the update, the USB cable got disconnected and that was the start of a big problem. the unit froze up and when I restarted it, showed the Garmin GPS BSOD - 'No detailed mapping available. Your Streetpilot cannot function'. The computer would not longer recognise the unit as a peripheral. I tried myGarmin support but tthat takes forever to load. ... Read More:

I was after a cycle computer that was easy to setup and didnt have wires trailing over the bike or a magnet attached to the wheel. GPS was therefore the way to go so having looked around I went for this unit. I didnt go for the more expensive Edge units as they had extra functionality I wasnt interested in. I also already own a Garmin in-car sat-nav so knew the product should be good. The system is easy to setup and you do have to update the software in the unit itself as well as the Garmin training centre that you load onto your PC/laptop. You create a user and bike profile so the computer knows the combined weight of you and your bike, this is so it can show you how many calories you are burning as you cycle. Initially the unit will take a while to find the GPS satellites, ... Read More:

There are loads of products like this now, but a year or so ago this was one of the few available. So I bought one. Lasted a day or two until a police car overtook me on the motorway and there was a loud bang. Thankfully no damage to the iPod but the Tunecast never worked again. No idea why. So I bought another one. What I've found is that sometimes it works really well and other times it doesn't work well at all. Have tried lots of different fixes... Being the only person in the car seems to help (again, no idea why) as does having the iPod on my lap. Even when it's working, though, I generally have to keep tuning to different frequencies because Radio 2 repeatedly elbows my tunes out of the way. Frustrating. One day I'll buy a car stereo that allows me to plug the iPod in, but for now ... Read More:
