I completely regret purchasing this unit, and you will too, if you are using a mac. Moreover I completely regret listening to the recommendations of the sales team at CanCom in Cambridge -- who assured me that this was machine would perform outstandingly well on a mac. Because it really doesn't. And I believe this is known to HP who have a very stock set of tech directions to ostensibly sort it out. But it hasn't and doesn't... and most likely won't for you either! Thus far I have spent hours trying to configure and reconfigure this machine... almost as long as I have been waiting for a measly 1mb pdf to print. But it won't... and won't for you either! I work in a store where I get to set up and use printers daily. The 8180 is on constant power so customers can use it themselves and see how easy it is to use. All the HP's are easier to use than the other manufacturers. The Ink systen is good but has small capacity. The inks you can buy seperately or in triple packs hold more ink than the 6-pack with paper. You can buy a ink supply system from CISS but this should be done with great caution as it will denegrade the printer head and not produce as good pictures. The burner works well. The lightscribe technology works very well but is slow and if you own a Mac this part will not work as you have to run the Roxio software on your machine, and it doesn't run on a Mac (maybe ... I Bought this printer just over a week ago, and it only took about 10 minutes to set up, which included installing all the software then connecting to the Wireless router using the software supplied on the installation CD. The only problem I found was, in order to set up the wireless connection, you first had to connect the printer to the computer using the supplied Network Cable as your computer needs to send information regarding your wireless network setup to the printer to allow it to connect.. However, once this is done and the settings have been sent, you can disconnect this lead and set up the wireless connection using your WPA or WEP code to make it secure (Just remember that WEP codes are case sensitive). Didn't arrive with software so had to download drivers for vista, but apart from this was easy to install. It is larger than expected, and quite heavy. The print quality is not great. But it is good enough for our needs, the scanner and copier work well and it is an excellent price for a wireless printer. However, there is a bug with vista where only 1 page will print - a patch is available from the lexmark site.

I ordered this printer together with a pack of KP-108P (which arrived a day before the printer). Although I have only just received the printer, I am very pleased with it in general. I found things very easy to follow using the handbook supplied and have printed the full version handbook from the supplied disc. Paper loading is straightforward and easy, not at all 'clunky' as others have found. I used the paper and cartridge supplied to print from my SD card which was too easy for words. I needed to buy an extra USB cable in order to print directly from my PC, again, this operation was simple and easy, athough I was thrown off course until I realised that the inbuilt visual display will only show a diagram depicting the connected printer and PC. I use this printer working from home for general printing, scanning and copying. I have a separate printer for photo printing. For small business use its pretty good. It replaced a Hp office jet J5780 which went in the bin after the scanner gave up and the software fixes rubbished my laptop. The Cannon is better alround. Quick printing,good software interface. Only 4 starsbecause strangely the copy button is on the left of the panel and the colour/black and white select button is on the far right. Can not comment about the ink use/cost. I suspect it will be about the same as its competitors, grossly expensive, but thats why the printer is realitively cheap.
