I found myself in need of a basic, no-frills (cheap) printer. I did the online searches - checked prices on what was available locally - & settled on this little beauty....

I made a point of reading the previous reviews here - generally it looked ok for the money & (despite some previous reviewers' reservations)I went for it. - It cost me less than 20 quid! -

(It also cost me an extra 14 quid for the USB cable) - But every advertisement I saw for this printer screamed that I would need to buy a separate cable - If previous reviewers missed this well.... Caveat Emptor - This is NOT a failing of the machine OR HP. It seems like almost ALL printers at this price need the cable as an extra - & why not? - (even ... Read More:

Have owned an MP970 for several weeks. Installation on an XP PC was easy even though the CD suggested it was for Vista only. Printing black & white text and colour photos from the PC produces excellent results. Copying is fairly easy, though I still find the control panel a little unintuitive and the wife couldn't handle it at all (more than one button so too complicated for her). Scanning 35mm film negs was a little disappointing compared with my dedicated FS2710 scanner. This was odd because the MP970 should give better resolution (4800 dpi versus 2700) - images look slightly out of focus. Also, colours look rather "washed out" compared with the dedicated scanner. Comparisons done with the same piece of film, of course. Maybe I was expecting ... Read More:

I bought this printer as a replacement for the Epson R200 which was a fantastic photo printer for 4 years (until the print head started playing up).
Having read loads of reviews singing the praises of the RX585, particularly for its photo printing quality, I opted for this model. What a disappointment!
The photos I printed intially on glossy inkjet photo paper were very grainy in appearance and colours (especially black) were poorly matched to the actual colours, with the black printing as red.

However, once I used Epson's own premimum glossy photo paper prints are perfect and would give photo labs a run for their money.

Overall the printer is very good and software fairly easy to use, but photo quality is only good ... Read More:

I bought this printer in US to realize the UK Inks would fit, but would not work. After "paying" for new 3180 in UK, it begin having problems only one month after the purchase. By them I had no warranty anymore!
From paper jammed to cartridge malfunctions, it had it all. Avoid it.

I had a Visioneer 9000, but it was incompatible with Windows Vista, so I bought the Canon. Unfortunately I have found it to be very slow. Scanning documents at 150 dpi each page takes 50 seconds. The actual scan takes 7 seconds, the remainder was waiting for it to do whatever it gets up to before the scan starts.

The Visioneer used to start scanning as soon as you pressed the button, or in other words it was a race to keep up with it when scanning multipage documents.

The software that comes with it is confusing. I ditched most of it as pretty useless in the end (Page Manager and ArcSoft Photo Manager).

True, it's not expensive, but then neither was the Visioneer. I don't think I would recommend this scanner to anyone.

I use this printer working from home for general printing, scanning and copying. I have a separate printer for photo printing. For small business use its pretty good. It replaced a Hp office jet J5780 which went in the bin after the scanner gave up and the software fixes rubbished my laptop. The Cannon is better alround. Quick printing, good software interface. Only 4 starsbecause strangely the copy button is on the left of the panel and the colour/black and white select button is on the far right. Can not comment about the ink use/cost. I suspect it will be about the same as its competitors, grossly expensive, but thats why the printer is realitively cheap.

In April 2008 I purchased from Amazon my MX700, after reading many reviews on various websites, I was reluctant to purchase another brand having always bought HP printers. The reason behind purchasing another brand, was due to conflicts between two HP printers on my wired netwotk, which HP support could not overcome.
I certainly do not regret the choice, I have found my MX700 excellent. The initial installation needs to be done carefully following the instructions given by canon.
My MX700 is installed on my wired network, and is easily accessible from my PC and laptop.
This machine has several features not common in other printers in this price range. In particular the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) works brilliantly, I've never had a paper jam, ... Read More:

This is quite simply the best printer I've ever bought. I got it as a present for my partner and she's absolutely delighted. It was very easy to set up on a partially wireless network and does all the jobs I could ask for and more. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with an ethernet or USB cable, but I had one lying around so no problem. I haven't used the fax functions yet, but I'm sure they do the job to the same standard.

Also when buying ink disregard the comments of anyone shamelessly plugging a certain website that sells refilled/refurbished cartridges. It's likely that they work for this company and they're being paid to write these bogus reviews that don't reflect their true quality. One of them seems to have the same opinion of 23 different ...
