Windows XP recognised and installed it right away. The machine noise on the headphone socket was shocking. The line out socket didn't seem to be producing any signal. I think this might be because it automaticly mutes the line out when headphones are plugged in. I don't know if it's because there's something wrong with my USB ports or the actual soundcard that's connected to them, but I can't seem to get rid of this machine noise. This item does not solve the problem.

After plugging it into my laptop and installing the Virtual DJ (Console Edition) that comes with it, all seemed to work as expected. I am already an owner of Virtual DJ 4, and wanted to use it with that. Unfortunately, it seems to work a lot less effectively with version 4 than with the one that comes with the product. I had a few problems with sound leaking out of my speakers when it shouldn't have been there at all. I managed to sort out a lot of the problems by downloading the 2006 drivers and removing the 2007 ones. Also, a few of the buttons on the console are rather insensitive, or sometimes too sensitive, resulting in unpredictable behaviour. It's the best thing there is out there at this price point. It's as simple as that. The drivers are well coded, the support is exemplary and the quality of the audio is crystal. If you need more than 24bit/96KHz, then there is a higher model, but for me personally, I think anything higher is not necessary (expecially if you're mixing down to 16bit/44.1) On top of all this, it has Midi I/O and SPDIF. What are you still reading this for? Go and buy one!

This is a superb USB sound i/f upgrade. If you check its analogue i/o performance with RMAA it's up there with the best, and far better than the poor built-in audio on most motherboards. OK, it's only 2 channel in and out, but as I use it for audio measurement of amplifiers and loudspeaker systems I only need 2-channels and it's an excellent portable interface. Unlike the other commentor I had no driver problems. I just selected the Transit as the default audio card and away I went.
