This Nikon SB-800 Speedlight was purchased to be used with a D300 D-SLR. Although not the most powerful flashgun available on the market it's however, powerful enough and extremely well built and it's manual is very comprehensive and I'm still digesting all of it's content. As with all of today's camera/flashgun manufacturers, whose products work effortlessly together, Nikon products are no exception. You get various auto modes such as I-TTL, AA etc. depending on your camera type, together with full manual mode when desired. It comes with a case, stand, soft light diffuser, gel kit and the extra battery attachment so a fifth battery can be use which reduces it's recharge time but strangely, no batteries. I'm ... I bought this flash to go with my Nikon D40 and it works perfectly with it. I am a bit of a novice when it copmes to photography but I was pleasently surprised with the results I got using the 'bouce flash' technique. I will never use the internal camera flash again! In all a really worthwhile addition to an SLR.

I bought the 580EX Mk II Speedlite to use it on a Canon EOS-1V film SLR or EOS 30D D-SLR cameras. I found the user manual to be very basic which is rather a pity. This Speedlite can be used in full auto or full manual flash modes and it works seamlessly when fitted directly to the accessory shoe (hot shoe) on either camera and I assume if an extension cable is used. The ETTL metering used in the 1V and the ETTLII metering used in the 30D camera work perfectly. The 580EX Mk II can be used as a powerful flashgun when fitted directly to the camera's accessory shoe and bouncing the light off a wall or ceiling. Like most reviewers I bought this for use with a D40. The improvement it makes to indoor shots is truly amazing. If you're a D40/40X/60 user, I guarantee you will be surprised by how much more natural and well-balanced your shots will look. Also, to confirm what another writer said - Unlike the built-in pop-up flash, you are not limited to single shots. The SB400 lets you shoot in continuous shooting mode with flash. And just to prove it, I'm now typing this bit with my left hand, and have the shutter release button on the D40 held down in my right hand, and the camera is clicking away at about 2.5fps and the SB400 is happily flashing away like a strobe light. I've been looking for a flash gun for my Canon 400D for ages . For price I paid on Amazon which was half its list , I couldn't resist. I don't often use a flash as I prefer natural light but I wanted something more powerful than the built in pop up thing. No it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the Canon branded flashed but it works and works well. The build quality is good as i'd expect from Sunpak having had this brand years ago I read some reviews on it before I bought it and it scored well for a £100 flash! I paid half that remember! So if like me you can't really justify £300 for flash gun go for this little beaut . Its fully auto but you can adjust the EV setting to get the exposure you want.
