Whilst this is an excellent camera in itself - I particularly like the smooth action of the motorised mirror - it's worth mentioning certain drawbacks of going down the Canon road if you're new to digital SLR photography. It can be quite expensive kitting out Canon cameras with lenses for the following reasons: 1. Image stabilisation is not built into the camera body. This means that to have the benefit of image stabilisation you need to buy lenses with that facility built in. This makes the lenses inherently more expensive for any given spec. 2. The 'kit' lenses available from Canon (the 18-55 and 55-250) do not have internal focus and this makes the use of polarising filters difficult with the filter thread rotating with focus. 3. ... Absolutely fantastic. The best camera I have ever owned. I'm no professional, I wouldn't know what to do with a DSLR so whats the point. This is really easy to use and takes great pictures.

I recently bought the Canon IXUS 80 digital Camera and I am very impressed!!! I have been looking for a digital camera for a while now to replace my old Olympus digital camera. I have tested a number of cameras in the shops and I think the zoom and the quality of pictures from the canon are much better than the others I tried. I took the camera on holiday and I have some amazing pictures, the camera was able to pick up the colours of the sea really well. The camera is really easy to use and also has a night time shooting mode which actually works really well. I would recomend this camera to everyone.

I'm not going to bore everyone as its all been said 1000x before in the reviews but it DOES live up to the hype. * Its very well made - reassuringly heavy. * Its got a full auto mode as well as offering full control over ISO, white balance, exposure etc to keep the pro's happy. * Photos are awesome. The image stabilisation works well. * Nice bonus is in-camera red eye removal * The LCD is one of the nicest I've seen on a camera. In short, if you're looking for a camera that offers more options and features and has a larger sensor & lens than a compact would offer, but you don't want to drag around a big heavy dSLR, this camera is for you! Go get one!

I've had my W170 for about a week now it really is an outstanding camera. I view my pictures on a 37" HDTV and the quality is amazing. Small enough to fit in your pocket, packs the punch of cameras costing twice the price.

I needed a good quality camera that was compact but I also wanted it to look nice. Good quality pictures, easy to use, solid build, shame about the 32mb card because its pointless. 3x Optical zoom but zooms in 12x but at a poorer quality. Highly reccomended, Great Product

OK, there are many, many more feature-packed cameras available. OK, it's only capable of 6.1 megapixels OK, it's not the most amazing at producing indoor shots without flash. OK, you have to get expensive AF-S lenses to get auto-focus with this camera. Well, forget all those things and buy this camera now. It's excellent. If you, like me, are looking for your first 'proper' camera (ie. an SLR), then, in my opinion, you need look no further than this wonderful piece of kit. It's just so much fun to use... it just feels so right -- good size, good weight, good picture quality, pretty fast, easy to use, nice 'idiot' mode, nice 'helper' pictures to remind you what the different settings do... it has the same (excellent) sensor as some of the more expensive models too, ...
