The concept, styling, weight, size and battery life are fantastic, but there are aspects of this product that leave you flat. This type of camcorder is the way of the future for all of us who want quick family holiday snaps and especially, videos. Tiny size, incredibly low weight, long battery life allow you to literally put it in your top pocket and when necessary, take it out and start shooting in a few seconds. The SHQ video would be great if I could view it on anything but the TV. Check that your PC's video card has codecs and is up to the task of rendering HD H264 MPEG4 video in real-time before you set off! Was uncertain if this or other SD cam would be happy with a Mac. Ans is YES - but you need to have Leopard which comes with iMovie. Simply connect via the supplied lead- run Movie - run cam and follow the screen instructions - downloads fully onto iMove, Simple! Note will not do this with Tiger and that version of iMove. I have both - video looks fine on a 24 inch iMac...but this is the first cam I have played with

I bought this camera recently with the arrival of our first child to be able to record general bits and pieces as all new dad's do! For the cost I wasn't expecting a great deal but I've been really surprised at how easy and well this camcorder performs. For someone who just wants to take general video of 'stuff' you really can't do much better than this for the price, a friend of mine was a bit dismissive of it however he's a professional and spends more on his kit than most people do their houses but for the price he had to conceed it certainly does the job!

I almost went for this camcorder, but in the end, I opted for a Sony DCR-SR62 camcorder. It cost just under £300, has a 30Gb hard disc built in and a touch-screen display, but has a 1.3Mp resolution. It really makes a huge difference on the quality of your videos. I've got nothing against this particular JVC model, but at the time I knew nothing about camcorders, and am glad I chose to spend a little extra and go for the Sony. Hope this helps !

As an entry-level customer I wanted the best I could get for under £300. First I bought a Sony HandyCam Hard Disk version. However the picture quality was appalling so I sent it back. I bought one of these instead and the difference couldn't be more profound. The 3CCD technology gives really lucid colours and very sharp detail. OK, if the light is failing the image will deteriorate quite quickly but on the whole for daytime use, including indoors in well lit rooms it is superb value.
