I've had this camera for a couple of months now and still I have yet to learn all the tricks it has in its locker. But I have done the most basic of all duties and I think I can pass on at least some judgement. Please note that I do not as yet have a HD television.

I upgraded from what was already a pretty decent top-of-the-range Canon video camera, albeit some years old now. The DX1 is clearly better and the most obvious reason for this is the format change from DV tape to DVD or SD. I have used at least a dozen DVD-R discs and have had no problems at all, but one of the irritations has been the slow speed of the camera from being switched off to being ready to film. Sometimes you want to move fast, and if you're in a real hurry, ... Read More:

I have had this product for over 6 months now and am still over the moon with it. As a budding amateur/hobbyist film maker on a low budget, I did do a lot of homework before I opted for this model, and I still think i made the right choice.

My favourite thing is the "broadcast quality?" output. It's just like watching regular TV - simply stunning - probably because of the German "Leica" lense (the same lense brand NASA used for the Appollo moon landings) -enough said.

By far, the other best thing on this camera is the optical image stablization feature - you won't fully appreciate it unless you try filming with the feature switched off - only then will you realize what a fantastic job it does.

I almost went for this camcorder, but in the end, I opted for a Sony DCR-SR62 camcorder. It cost just under £300, has a 30Gb hard disc built in and a touch-screen display, but has a 1.3Mp resolution. It really makes a huge difference on the quality of your videos.

I've got nothing against this particular JVC model, but at the time I knew nothing about camcorders, and am glad I chose to spend a little extra and go for the Sony. Hope this helps !

As an entry-level customer I wanted the best I could get for under £300. First I bought a Sony HandyCam Hard Disk version. However the picture quality was appalling so I sent it back. I bought one of these instead and the difference couldn't be more profound. The 3CCD technology gives really lucid colours and very sharp detail. OK, if the light is failing the image will deteriorate quite quickly but on the whole for daytime use, including indoors in well lit rooms it is superb value.

Disappointed with both Sony and Amazon as we ordered this item twice and each time two parts were missing: both blamed the other for missing parts. Have decided to order a different make. On the refund side Amazon were prompt to collect and refund money.

Being a newcomer to the world of camcorders, I looked for something reasonably easy to set up and use, with the ability to playback 8mm Hi8 and Digital8 tapes, not very expensive and able to connect to my iMac.

I did some research, found this unit as a good, reasonably priced option..
..

15 mins after opening the box, I had it connected to my iMac, importing footage from a Hi8 tape into iMovie !!

I think this is a great machine and recommend it to people looking for a good camcorder.
