This camera is the lightest and smallest camera I have owned so far. It has features I find very useful, for example the shoot and choose function is great for shooting action shots. It will easily fit in a largish shirt's lapel pocket. It starts up quickly for those moments when you need a camera bit quick. I have only given it 3 stars though because the picture quality is only average. It may be 8 megapixel but I think I was achieving better pictures with my Canon a70 3.2 megapixel camera 5 years back or more. There is considerable noise in most pictures. Colour leakage around things and lndscape pictures seem a little flat. But if you want a well made, lightweight camera at a reasonable price you'd do well to consider ... Read More:

This is a cracking bit of kit. It is an ideal home movie camera for taking shots of the kids and other home movie type stuff such as holidays and days out. The quality of picture is fine for this type of stuff. It is really simple to use and you can even do basic editing on the camera itself (cutting and joining clips). It is really easy to view shots on your TV and to copy onto either video or DVD. You also get a 9MP still camera as well and it fits in your pocket as it is not much bigger than a large mobile phone!! I bought it to replace my broken Panasonic mini DV camcorder and for £160 I think it is a bargain. I am well pleased with it.

I have never bought a camera for more that £120 as to be honest we could never afford to spend more. The problem with buying a cheaper camera was everytime you go to take a picture you would press the button and by the time the picture was taken the subject would have moved. Now I love photography, I am not an expert but want to improve my skills. Well the panasonic DMC-FZ18 is brilliant, the recovery time is so much quicker than any camera I have ever had, and the burst mode is a great feature. I still have to learn how to use this camera properly but I have taken some really amazing photos and have only had it a day. A FANTASTIC CAMERA, I thoroughly recommend it.

This isn't the slimmest or tiniest compact digital camera, but it's still easily pocketable (jacket, not shirt!) and for the price, produces great pics in a compact form. The screen is a good size and nice and bright and the extra bit on the zoom makes a difference - most of the competition stops at 3x. The colour choice allows a bit of personalisation. There are an amazing number of presets, but you won't need most of them, and the most important ones are the most accessible. Anyone unused to digital cameras or who is a bit of a technophobe upgrading might find the menus a bit of a fiddle, but for most purposes, they won't be used much. Then he showed me the S8100. This is such a versatile camera. It does almost anything an SLR can within the limitations of its lens. I wanted a camera that allowed me close ups. It does macro to 1cm. I have taken some amazing shots of a dragonfly, bees, hoverflies, flowers etc. I have taken shots at full zoom (18x) without a tripod and the results have been excellent. I've just bought my third Optio WP. My original (5MP and good to 1.5m) got trashed following a very annoying shallow water mistake - opening the camera underwater is not a good thing to do. The second (7MP and good for 3m) is still going strong despite being squashed between me and a very slippery rock as I fell unceremoniously into the sea. It's got some very deep scratches, but other than that is fine. It's been taken underwater on more than a hundred occasions and still remains watertight. It's definitely been taken deeper than 3m - albeit briefly - and has stayed in the water for stretches of over an hour. We bought this camera for our holiday - an activity holiday including lots of water activities. It was great, very easy to use ; the case makes it easy to attach to yourself. The software supplied with the camera is also easy to use which is a bonus. The only small criticism we have is that the camera does not have a viewfinder ( we were used to this on our Sony cybershot) which can make taking photos in very bright light a bit tricky. Overall though very happy. We bought the bright blue version which we really liked.
