After being really impressed with the picture quality from a friends Sony Cybershot DSC-W100 I decided to take the plunge with a Sony camera. This model took my eye because of the black design. After a few months of playing around (being a casual photographer) I am very happy with my purchase.

For me, the major plus points are:
sharp high resolution images at 8.1MP
a hefty 4x optical zoom
powerful flash that gives you superb photos in poor light
user-friendly menu and navigation
great looking camera

The low points are:
the camera is smaller than I imagined, feeling awkward in my clumsy hands
relatively small LCD screen - at 2.5cm (my old Kodak camera had 3cm)
annoying ... Read More:

I've had the 450D for a little while now, a great buy...easy to use, and once you get the hang of it you'll know where everything is. Granted you'll need to suss out the best ways of taking shots, and getting exposure right, but that will all come in time. The kit lens it comes with is pretty good - a good starter lens to go with this is the 50mm f1.8 MKII prime lens, cheap, and sharp...and pick your self up a couple of Sandisk SDHC 4GB Extreme III cards for your pics. Build wise, the camera feels solid, light and everything is where you need it, the screen is a decent size too.

Worth the money, I'd class the 450D as hybrid beginner/midrange camera.

This is a great compact camera. It just sits on your palm snugly. The camera looks and feels solid but not too heavy in the pocket. It is also fast and responsive when taking pictures. The quality of the picture is beyond expectation from a point and shoot compact. If you are the regular SLR user but get fed up with the bulky camera then this compact camera would be the great alternative. The viewing LCD is big without the touch screen which is great as the touch screen would eventually get 'tired' and unresponsive with use anyway.
All the ISO associated noise etc are all common problems with any compacts anyway but in day to day 5x7 prints and web use, it gives really great pictures.
There is even a histogram too!
After using it a for a while, ... Read More:

Wow! what a great little camera and so cheap for what it does! This has to be the best value for money for a compact digital. I have reduced the pixel count to 5mp and in good light this produces pictures that are bright, nicely saturated and full of detail. It is a bit plasticy, hence 4 stars, and does not do all of the things that more expensive compacts are capable of doing. However, when you think about what you want a compact for, it doesn't make much sense to buy something that costs as much as a DSLR. Just point and shoot - this does the job surprisingly well and looks stylish too. It is light, small enough for a shirt pocket and pretty responsive in terms of finding focus. Low light capability? not great, but no worse than most digital compacts on the market. ... Read More:

I'm by no means a photographer but I do like getting the best technology for the price. This is a great bridging camera for people that wont get the use out o a full blown SLR but want more functions etc and better value for money than the standard compact digital cameras.
No problems with it so far.
Easy and intuitive to use.

I bought the Sony dscw110 a little over a month ago. I am not a brilliant photographer however, the camera is small, light, looks good, takes brilliant photographs and is so easy to use a child could use it.
Very impressed also with the prompt delivery from Amazon.
Impressed all round.

It is not often that one falls in love with an object, but I have.I used to have a manual Nikon SLR back in the "good old days" and thought for the last 20 years that nothing could replace it. I was wrong. Technically this gem is phenominal, the zoom is astounding and for me a 50 year old highly suspicious of all things digital , it is a revelation. Linking up to the Canon site you can easily download your images, work on them, creat your own albums and send them to freinds. I use it as a visual diary. My only complaint is that the Canon site limits you to 100mb but I am working on that.It has opened doors for me which I thought were technically truly closed.Brilliant

Bought this after losing my Canon Ixus50 (5Mega-pixel). The camera is robust and has plenty of useful features - however the intelligent mode select and anti-shake are not great. I did get better results from my Canon. However at the price its good value. Takes SD cards which are cheap and easy to plug into most laptops and the battery lasts well. Prefer the Canons picture taking ability but a good cheap digital camera.

I bought this mainly for diving (along with the appropriate housing). I've only had it a few days and I haven't dived with it yet, but there are some magnificent features, and it knocks my old Fuji for six.
First, the LCD screen is 3 inches instead of 2.5. We mathematicians know that means that the area is nearly half again as big, and that makes a big difference at 15m. Second, it is one click to switch from movie mode to "underwater" still mode. The fuji required all sorts of scrolling and messing about.
Less specifically about diving, the direct printing is fantastic, as are the cropping features, the slightly gimmicky but very arty facility to shoot B&W except for one colour, the fact that you can trim videos in camera, and that the camera knows which way up you're holding it and ... Read More:
