I bought this mainly for diving (along with the appropriate housing). I've only had it a few days and I haven't dived with it yet, but there are some magnificent features, and it knocks my old Fuji for six. First, the LCD screen is 3 inches instead of 2.5. We mathematicians know that means that the area is nearly half again as big, and that makes a big difference at 15m. Second, it is one click to switch from movie mode to "underwater" still mode. The fuji required all sorts of scrolling and messing about. Less specifically about diving, the direct printing is fantastic, as are the cropping features, the slightly gimmicky but very arty facility to shoot B&W except for one colour, the fact that you can trim videos in camera, and ... IF you really want to take some great photo's, but don't want to pay professional prices for a DSLR camera then this is the camera for you. Having taken the time to read a few sections of the manual (how to use the manual settings) i quickly ignored all of it and just used the Auto modes (mainly Auto and landscape). I've taken this camera to Africa on safari, and taken some fantastic photo's and I truely am impressed with this camera and how good the pictures are. Build Quality is excellent: metal body, firm tactile buttons, no creaks in the casing and battery compartment is extremely secure. Looks: Bearing the Sony Cyber-Shot name across the front against the brushed allumium is absolutely stunning with the dark metallic trim matching the body of the lens. I purchased this camera for the extra manual features it boasts as I like to be a little creative on occasion with my photography. I've only owned the Fuji f50 for a short time and many respects I'm very impressed with it. It does however appear to have one frustrating flaw in my opinion. This is with scenic views that have a high degree of light contrast. (Ie: Lakes with a lot of cloudy sky reflection.) The pictures tend to come out really dark and I have been unable as yet to find any settings that can compensate for this effect. I took pictures of similar scenes with both this camera and my Samsung Digimax i6 and though the focus was better with the Fuji f50 the Samsung had little problem with the light contrast. Read More:

This is a great little point and shoot camera and really well suited to less experienced photographers. I did plenty of research on the subject with specific requirements as follows: Optical Viewfinder - This as several advantages, it dramatically improves battery life by enabling the camera to be used without the 2.5" LCD screen and it allows the camera to be used more traditionally (and intuitively) by putting it up to the eye. The image in the optical viewfinder dose zoom in and out with the lens, so you take what you see. High ISO - The camera goes up to 1600 ASA which means that it can be used to take pictures in low light conditions without using a flash. Recently bought this digital SLR (with the VR lens kit) and I'm very impressed so far. This is my first dSLR purchase but I don't think I was prepared for just how great the jump in quality would be from a compact. Out of the box it's pretty much ready to go, and I was taking pictures about five minutes after the battery was done charging. The camera does come with the obligatory 300page manual for when you get round to needing to know about f-stop and aperture timings and all that but the quickstart guide is enough to get you up and running. So far I've been shooting inside and outside and the picture quality thus far has been, to my untrained eye, exemplary. First time in years I have owned a camera, took it out yesterday and managed to snap a couple of lightning strikes, which is nice. A problem I found is the autofocus works most of the time, but if there's something wrong with the scene pointed at, probably not enough contrast like dark clouds waiting for lightning, it fails completely. It does have a manual focus, which I checked before buying, but that's so unusable, it's almost as if they deliberatly designed it so badly to stop you using it, and it's only available in a mode that forces you to choose either the aperture or shutter speed, or both, if you want manual focus then you're obviously a pro who doesn't want the auto mode. Lots of reviews on the silver version of this, not so many on the chocolate one. I SAY chocolate, but its more a dark burgundy really. Anyway, it doesn't matter to me, its different and it looks cool. Looks aren't everything though are they? It needs to perform well too. I used to have a digital Ixus400 which I loved and needed something just as good. This is. No, its better. I still haven't experimented with all the features yet, but its taking some lovely pictures so far. Plus points: It looks great.. It takes great photo's without lots of fuss.. Its nailed together well.. Works straight out of the box (still not charged the battery) Minus points: Erm... erm... I can't think of any. Maybe its more expensive than some. But its worth it!

Just a quick review as I thought I needed to highlight this problem. Basically the camera is a great all rounder for the price, except for the screen outdoors. You can't see what's on it! Its not bright enough to see what you are doing and because there is no viewfinder on this camera. There is no alternative. You just have to point the camera in the general direction of your subject and hope you get it. This problem may also occur in similar priced camera's LCD screens.

Really impressed with this camera. Really simple to use and great results. Doesn't come with a case so had to buy one separately, but this is minimal. Screen is nice and big and clear too. Excellent when zooming in with optical zoom really clear. Would definately recommend.
