I previously had a Nikon S6 which was about 6MP, and I thought I needed an upgrade, and naturally I assumed I would go up in model to the new S7C, or equivalent. I decided rather than buying "blindly" of the Internet - I would instead try my hand at actually going in to a Camera Store and get the opinions of the camera expert. Now I was presented with a Canon IXUS 85 IS, and straight away I played it down, because my heart was set on a Nikon. After weeks of checking out other cameras, I went back in to the store, and I actually tested it : a. Size and b. Quality against the Nikon, and I did not think much of it, until I got home, and checked it out. I gotta say, the Canon grew on me, and I am loving all the features, and messing with the ISO, ... I wanted to replace my aging Exilim camera from 2003, and strangely although that camera was expensive at the time and had good write-ups, I was never particularly happy with it, especially when trying to do close-up shots. Before the Exilim, I had previously had a Fuji digital camera and remember I had been very happy with that, so I looked around at various reviews for the current Fuji compact cameras and came across this one.

I am delighted with this little beauty! I am no real photographer, preferring "point and shoot" simplicity, but this camera really does encourage you to go that one step further and makes it so easy to set up your own preferences for each shot. It even has a menu for different shot descriptions, such as Flower, ... Read More:

Camera's menus work smoothly and are easy to use. There are nifty options like semi-automatic adjustment of time zones, power-saving modes plus all standard like control of white-balance, autofocus, ISO, etc.

With single click of a button you can set maximum zoom (that's useful for camera with 10× zoom), change exposure, bracketing/HDR, macro and flash settings.

Photos are good (even in low light). You can make movies in very high quality by switching to 16:9 aspect ratio.

Battery charger is external. Camera can't be charged from USB. It comes with a little box you can use to carry spare battery.

Works perfectly with iPhoto. Fits in a pocket.

I needed a new camera for a holiday. I had specific requirements: easy to use point and shoot, reasonable zoom, some flexibility if I felt the need to be creative - and a camera that would produce good quality photographs.
I looked in a few photography magazines - was confused by the huge range of digital cameras - came to the net (realising that it would probably be worse).
This camera appeared to have the features I wanted and whilst, alas, there was only 1 review, it was a good one by someone who seemed to know his stuff.
When the camera arrived I couldn't get over how small it was - tho' once I was used to handling it, not at all uncomfortable to hold.
Personally, I didn't find the instruction booklet particularly easy to understand ... Read More:

I was wondering whether to go to the expense of an SLR when shopping to replace my Sony CyberShot DSC-W1:
Sony Cyber-SHOT DSC-W1 Digital Camera

In the end, I went for this and I have not been disappointed. Its response is very quick and it looks great, being not too big and in possession of a great screen to view pictures on. In the box you get a rechargable battery (Lithium-ion NP-BG1), battery charger, shoulder strap, lens cap, lens hood (for use when the sun is out) and lens adapter, which is used to attach the hood and other lenses that you might wish to purchase. There's a USB cable and TV connector, too. I have a Sony Telephoto lens (Sony VCL-DH1758.AE Tele End Conversion Lens) which increases the magnification/zoom by 1.7, and is a great ... Read More:

Well, I got mine this morning and it's on it's way back to Amazon tomorrow.

The camera is very well built, it looks and feels the business. I would recommend getting one in black or in green otherwise there's just too much silver going on.

This camera has it's obvious plus points which I won't go into - it's waterproof, there you have it.

I have a lot of pro SLR equipment, so thought that there was little point in trying to get a compact that might try to compete with them on image quality...so instead I thought that a robust compact would be the way forward, something that I could take with me anywhere and not have to worry about if I dropped it.

For this benefit I was prepared to take a hit on the image quality ... Read More:

First shot I took (low light, indoors at night) I could see the pink banding problem!

Upgraded the firmware & I haven't seen it since.

I hummed and hah'ed becuase of the pink banding but now I'm very happy with my purchase. The images are really *really* vivid. I had a chance to pit this camera against my mates TZ (can't remember the exact model, but it's last years model)....the Fuji won in every photo class.

I'm not some happy snapper...I'm seriously into photography (have SLR & a host of dedicated lenses), so when I say I'm anal about this stuff....you can be sure that if I'm satisfied that I'm a tough cookie to please.

Only downside to date, is the 'wheel of fortune' menu dial. For example if you want to go ... Read More:

Bought this from Amazon last Christmas, and used it extensively since. this is a great camera - not the smallest or lightest thing you can buy, but if you're looking for outstanding performance for around £200, then buy this. Build quality is excellent. I've dropped this a couple of times and managed to get it wet once, and had no trouble. I previously had a Canon A640 and a A320 before that. These A series Powershots are great, and this one is the best so far.

MY TIP: Buy Energizer Lithium batteries for this - they last ages and are really light! They save a surprising amount of weight!

Took this great camera with me on several trips now to Egypt and Bonaire and although it is rated for use to a maximum depth of 10 meters is has been deeper with me without any problems. Battery life may vary but it is easy to use and has a clear display. Fits easily in the pocket of your BCD. Clip it to a D-ring because it will sink if you let it go.
Overall good quality pics both above and under water. Love it and if I would lose it I would order another one before my next trip !
