A little cracker for the cash. It's compact, decently constructed considering the price and is very sharp when stopped down a touch from wide open. It's still useable at f2.8 mind, and is a massive improvement over any of Canon's cheap zooms in this range. It's supposedly a bit noisy (never been something that bothered me in a lens) and the AF can hunt a bit in low light I've found - but this can be said about more expensive lenses too. If you're after your first DSLR, consider buying a body with one of these and save yourself a bit of cash in the long run.

At this price this really is a good lens - OK on a Canon 350D you need good light and a faster ISO setting but even at a higher ISO setting the 350D takes good useable shots. I would love a faster zoom lens but as I cannot afford / justify that amount of money, this lens will get the shots I need as long as it's sunny! Or macro shots with a flash.

I received this item within three days of having ordered it from Amazon and I am hugely impressed with it. It's easy to use and the menus are easy to operate. There are 21 scene modes which are simple to access and select. The iA (intelligent auto) mode is brilliant as it automatically selects the correct mode, exposure, shutter speed etc taking the thought out of the entire process, taking quality pictures every time. The three inch screen is crystal clear and will automatically adjust it's brightness depending on the brightness of your environment. On the whole, this looks and feels like a top quality well made product and I would recommend it to anyone.
