Nothing special about this book
I certainly would rave about it

I took this book along with others to Tuscany - my first visit. We were staying in the middle of Chiantishire and found the book invaluable and for our limited time there, accurate. There are detailed descriptions of Florence and Siena but also some helpful guidance on the Tuscany villages. Useful because the villages take time to get to and we needed to prioritise. Very accurate about the restaurants and trattorias we used.

I love this book. It's an unusual mixture, a hard book to categorise, but that's its stength. For many who come to Tuscany it's the perfect mixture as the great food and beautiful scenery combined are such a part of the pleasure. Beth Elon suggests driving routes with places to see along the way, then explains the food specialities of each area, lists special places to eat, then gives a few sample recipes from each restaurant. One of the real strengths is the local specialities information, as it really highlights some of traditions and how food can be unique to a particular small location not just 'Tuscany' as a larger region. We have found the restaurants that we've tried from the book to be just as described, with excellent, good value food ... Read More:

This is a highly recommendable and very useful guide for discovering Tuscany. The layout of the book with tour descriptions being presented side by side with - but clearly distinguished from - additional and very interesting background informations and historical episodes makes this guide extremely user-friendly. The book contains a lot of very useful general as well as tour-specific practical hints which often save time and efforts. Of valuable practical help for orientation during the walks are the precise intermediate-time marks (they lose their lack-of-spontaneity-flavor completely during the trip!) and indications not only where about to go but also which way or path to ignore: nothing can go wrong! The tour descriptions are extraordinary precise ... Read More:

Just another DK book. Vague coverage of everything with general statements. No evidence of a travelogue of the author.

This is an inexpensive guide of Tuscany , is particularly useful to plan a visit , more than to get indepth information about the different places.
There is not much information about accomodation.
The guide size is compact and fits into a pocket , is very concise and good value for money.
I feel it will suit more a visitor wanting to see the highlights of Tuscany in a quick visit than someone trying to spend more time in the region .
