I'm nearly at the end of the book but couldn't wait to say what a thoroughly enjoyable, funny, and thought provoking read this book has been. I've read this as an atheist with an always enquiring mind. I've not felt pressured into following Ms Gilbert's beliefs - this is not a "Try this at home" or a "How to be successful" book, nor is it judgmental of any religions. This is Gilbert's very personal journey and it explains ideas and practices from most religions. I have an understanding of where she's coming from. It hasn't changed my views of the practised religions, but it has encouraged me to read further. It could also be titled "A tourist's guide to searching for God" as the descriptions of the places Gilbert visits could rank with any good ... This is a joy to listen to. Eckhart certainly knows the essence of all the key spiritual messages that have been passed down over the centuries and puts them in his own non-dogmatic, modern, clear way. I have studied spiritual, religious and mystical writings for over twenty years - and this sums them all up.

If you are in midlife and not wholly happy with your life, read this book. This book is meant to empower.

Marianne Williamson asks us: "How would we live were we not afraid of death? How would we live if we felt full permission from ourselves and others to give to life everything we've got?"

With those thoughts in mind, Williamson guides the reader to go after the life they want; to be proactive. Only when "we go for it" do we flourish.
Midlife is what you create. We are not too old to change, if anything, with age comes knowledge, Williamson counsels.

Williamson believes midlife is another stage of life and should be celebrated as such--not unlike the transition from childhood into teenager. She claims ... Read More:

All Eckhart Tolle DVD's CD's and books are fantastic - this DVD set is extra special as it is over 4 hours long and comes with a 64 page book.

With his wonderful blend of humour and simple truths, Eckhart's life transforming words deepen our awareness and anchor us firmly in "The now" - the only place we can ever be.

Stillness, presence, silence, the egoic state, the flowering of human consciousness, combating excessive thinking, forms and the formless, are all covered and much more.

Using brilliantly clear explanations Eckhart leads us from suffering into peace.

Practicing the Power of Now is a handy companion to Eckhart's wildly popular The Power of Now. Essentially, Practicing the Power of Now contains the same information as in the first book. However, I have to say that I prefer this format. The first book was written in a question answer format. These questions came from the author's students. He also included amalgamated questions that covered a variety of common queries. These question and answer sessions gradually took the reader from common perception through to an understanding of the illusions that we generally accept as real and the importance of the present moment.

Practicing the Power of Now is written in formalized chapters summarizing much of the material written that first book ... Read More:

In my 8 years of spiritual studies studies I can't believe I'm only just reading this book...I was inspired by the Neale Donald Walsch, conversations with god books (the theory is the same as this) but only decided to read this because I kept noticing other authors I love, such as Doreen Virtue and Louise L Hay, were quoting from this book like it was the 'law'...This book is course to rid (maybe not rid but help you to understand and control) you of your ego and retrain your mind to listen to the loving guidance of the voice that was given to you by god..Then once you have healed yourself, you are invited to help others to 'heal themselves'. The text is absolutly inspiring and lifts the spirits as its like sombody telling you the truth that you have ... Read More:

I have long been an admirer of Wayne Dyer and enjoyed many of his books but this time he has surpassed himself. Dyer takes each verse of the Tao Te Ching (and of all the translations I've read I must say I like Dyer's the most) and crafts a short essay on its meaning and how it is applicable to our daily lives. Inspiring, enlightening and wholly uplifting, this is a simply beautiful book. I decided to read the book slowly, as it suggests, reading one chapter a day...and I must say I really look forward to my 5-10 minutes of quiet time with this book. It's already changing the way I look at life. At the moment there is a plethora of goal-oriented, law of attraction-type books, where the focus is very much on 'what I can get out of life'. The approach here is ... Read More:

Truly eye opening stuff, if the genesis in the bible deals with the "why" (as is the case with religion) then this is the history behind it. An all encompassing history of the world that'll make you see things in a new light, how sad and messed up humans have become, and what needs to happen to save our race. Very compelling read, though sometimes it dips a little too much into the spiritual side of things and may come across as biased rather than pure research. They should make this compulsory reading at schools instead of nonsense such as creation theory.

I whole heartedly agree with the previous reviewers..this book too has profoundly changed my life ! I have read quite a few self help books but Katie I have found is the only one so far that puts things in a real simple and down to earth manner. Not some airy fairy spiritual thing...the only way really for people to gain clarity over their seemingly negative ways is to discover the truth for themselves and this she does so brilliantly. I found The Power Of Now life transforming, this goes even beyond that..for those who still don't quite "get it" with the likes of Tolle, Dwyer, Virtue and so many others, including Law of Attraction books, they should definately give this book a go. I am also in the process of ordering her other books. She is truly a gift to the world ... Read More:

This books contains some useful insights.
Still, it is very clear that it is just meant to be a quick way of multiplying the sales channels of what the author has already said in other books; it comes so far as to partially consist of transcriptions of seminaries with much blabla and nothing that is not a repetition of what was already said.

Also not pleasing is the constant self advertising of the author and promotion of his other books, internet sites etc. A bit would still go if made with class and decency, but in my eyes this was not the case here.

All in all, I would not spend the money again for this book and do not consider it a good investment.
