Garbage.
That's what this is. Garbage. It's bad enough that the fore-runner to this book was swallowed hook, line, and sinker by the gullible thousands; but for a sequel, even more outlandish in its thesis, to receive a similar welcome is a poor reflection on the intelligence of the average reader.
There are thousands, if not millions, of academic books, papers, theses, and disseratations that paint a different image of how China and Europe shared knowledge. None of them mention this armada.
Garbage.

There is such a thing as a work of fantasy. This is book is just that. No evidence whatsoever. No proof. No circumstantial evidence. Pure tosh from start to finish. This is no more history than books on Atlantis are history.
Do youselves a favour - if Sino-European history interests you, buy a good, well-respected, well-researched work on the subject. Leave foolishness like this to the idiots.

This is a very well written book. The author obviously has a great enthusiasm for his subject, and this comes across in the book and makes it a very enjoyable read. However, I think it should be noted that there is little if any physical evidence to back some of his claims. Also, the way that he has interpreted some of the evidence is a bit one-sided.

Overall this is a good read but maybe not quite as scholarly as it at first appears.

Very intersting and a must for every serious naval enthusiast looking to round out his collection of naval history. The size of the book leaves one thirsting for more .......... and that is why it does not earn a five star.

What is there though, is fascinating!

5.All under Heaven: A Complete History of China by: Rayne Kruger

: All under Heaven: A Complete History of China
Perhaps the most ambitious history book I've ever read, All Under Heaven is no less than an attempt to chronicle every reign and imperial dynasty in China's history. I have to say that I did not like this book but I can only take my hat off to the author for attempting such an undertaking. I think that many of the book's problems come from the fact that it's objective is probably impossible to do in one volume and four hundred pages. There are some good things about Kruger's book though, and it is with these I would like to start.

The ambition of the book aside, what attracted me was the promise of finally being able to have a complete overview of Chinese history. The story of China can be seen impenetrable at first. Where does one begin with ... Read More:

I happened to visit the Zheng He museum in Malacca, Malaysia, two weeks ago and found the place an absolute must. There I also viewed the video and found it excellent. Hopefully it will soon be available in other formats so everybody can enjoy it without reconfiguring their DVD drive for zone 1.

There has been much scholarly discussion over the years about pre-Columbian societies in the Americas. How many were there? What technologies did they develop? Did they have writing? What destroyed them? Where is the evidence?

In this book, Charles Mann brought together much of the recent scholarly knowledge, piecing together evidence from across North, Central and South America, to come up with a cohesive image of what the Americas looked like in terms of human occupation before Columbus.

The book's main arguemnt is that the Americas were already heavily populated with as many as 20 million people when Columbus arrived. These people possessed technology very advanced that was not, as much of history tells, puny and weak compared ... Read More:

This book is full of history and an honest and well researched account of the first Emperor of China. For Jonathan Clements this project must have been very difficult. To find and research on a topic where there are not many entries or much written about he has done well and wrote a informative book about the life of the very first Emperor of China.

After hard work the first emperor decided to be called an 'Emperor' rather then a king. Giving himself the name of the ruler of the world. It was his passion to rule the world and to capture as many countries as he could. He died young and was beginning to achieve his success. He wanted to hand over his reins to his son and after his closest associate changed the will of the first emperor, the wrong ... Read More:

Before reading this book, I had never heard of Coxinga, the "Pirate King." After reading it, I realized there were a lot of other things I had never heard of, either. I learned about early 17th century southeast China, about the position of the island we know today as Taiwan in relation to the mainland, and about the amazingly cyclical nature of Chinese history in general. What impressed me most, though, was to see how much interchange there was in the area so long ago, among totally different cultures. I never imagined that there was a "pirate king" in the South China area in the 17th century who was half-Japanese, who fought the invading Manchus on the mainland, the Dutch on Taiwan, had dealings with the Spanish, Portuguese, English, and even kept a contingent ...
