I had this book as a child and adored it. Instead of the same old rhymes trotted out, this contains just about every verse any child could want or need - and without any PC rewrites. Don't worry about the old fashioned pictures - the poems are enough to stimulate any child's imagination (well they did mine and my two children's) and you'll have loads of fun singing and reciting these, not to mention that once they can read for themselves, this will keep them entertained for hours. Anyone that thinks nursery rhyme books are just for sitting quietly and looking at pretty pictures misses the point. This is a wonderful CD for babies - and parents ! Doctors should prescribe this to soothe babies to sleep. After trying many different techniques to get our 11 month old daughter to sleep ( I am not a fan of letting babies "cry it out" ! ) my friend suggested playing some relaxing music. After reading the reviews on Amazon we decided to try this CD. We have used it religiously every night for 3 weeks and every night our daughter has settled into her cot and lay and listened to the music until she falls asleep. We then have the delight of listening to the rest of the CD on the baby monitor. The title is the fifth line from the Smith's "What difference does it make" and I hope when I read the book that Mr Roberts adopts Morrisey's nonchalent but meaningful approach to life, which all the reviewers have missed so far! I hope it's a five star book.

This book brings back all the memories of childhood and school playgrounds. Remember the one about Adam and Eve and Nip-me-Well or any other version, well they are all in there. The Opie's went around the UK in the 1950's collecting rhymes, games, riddles - all the little bits of speech that we as adults forget. As well as being an anthology, the authors provide an insight to the history of these games as well as some discussion as to the ways the children use them - obviously rhymes can be used to tease as well as please. Readers of today should also be aware that this book was written in the 1950's and as such contains both out of date material, and perhaps somewhat controversial jokes. Overall, however, this book is a gem.

My little girl has been interested in these types of books from the age of 2 months (she also has a pets one) when she became fascinated by the pictures. She is now 4.5 months and still loves to look at the pictures (with a few sound effects from mum or dad!) or just grab the book and scrunch it up (it makes a crinkly noise) and put it in her mouth! It's very light so she can move it around easily. These kind of books aren't expensive and I reckon they're well worth the money.

Superb ! I wanted an "old fashioned" nursery rhyme book with nice pictures to read to my new son just like I had when I was a child. This is that book. Buy it.

I bought this CD based on the rave reviews it had received and because there was such a long list of songs. However the style of the music is not quite what i was expecting. I am no music buff but the style of the singing is more Irish folk/light opera music than jolly children's music. The words of some songs are not very clear and hard to sing along to. Also, the music sounds quite samey due to the style of the two singers. If you are a music pro this might be for you but if, like me, you wanted something simple and jolly to entertain your child and sing along to this is not the right CD.

My 3 year old loves this book and never tires of it. She loves hearing the meny different rhymes and looking at all the pictures. She asks for it to be read to her most nights. I like this book because it is packed full of different rhymes so i do not have to get bored reading the same thing every time. We have had this book for 2 years now and i know we will still be reading it for meny years to come, much better value than meny other books.

Bought this CD after reading the positive reviews and I'm really glad I did. Our 2-year-old girl loves it and despite playing it over and over again we haven't got fed up with it, which is praise indeed! Disagree with the reviewer who didn't like the male vocalist's voice. I think it's a pleasant change to hear an English accent with perfect diction. Great opening track which gets our daughter dancing and our feet tapping immediately!

I bought the book for a present after reading all the great reviews. Found the story rather strange. And the ending that the woman dies is odd. Maybe that's English humour I don't get. The graphics are lovely though. I bought the hardbook and there was no CD, maybe hearing the song helps to enjoy the story more.
