In our house it's called the Great Big Book of Everything. My son is five and we have this book for a couple of years. Thoroughly recommended.

I ordered this for my 6 year old son ready for his show and share afternoon at school, not sure if it would be suitable for his age. He loved the book immediately and was able to read and understand the text confidently. What really caught his imagination were the maps in the back, of the continents and countries, and the animals, landmarks, etc... that could be found around the world. I am sure we are going to have hours of fun learning about the world - think mummy will learn a thing or two as well!!

My son needed something more than his picture dictionary, but not so large he lost interest in looking a word up - and this is perfect. The only down side is the size (A5) and being a hardback, it is a little heavy for carrying around on a daily basis.

My little boy got given this book for CHristmas last year and loves it so much that I could probably quote it all the way through, I've read it so often. Okay, there's not a strong story but what do you expect for a cartoon book for pre-schoolers? The rhymes are cute and the pictures are great - we love it, and so do all the kids at nursery!

I order this book for the daughter of a best friend from home, because she is very found of English and this is a good way to learn new things and to perfection her skills in this language. I was SOOO happy for it till the moment I opened the atlas to the page 67 where Ukraine, Moldova and Romania are presented. Except the omnipresent Dracula, which has become already a cliche for us, Romanians, it is stated there "Romanians speak Romansch - a language closely related to French, Italian and Spanish. The country has a sizeable Hungarian and Roma minority which have been both discriminated against in recent years" First, we speak ROMANIAN not Romansch!! This book is great and provides hours of fun for children. It is worth reading as it has lots of weird facts and information.

I have had several editions of the Guinness World Records over the years and they have generally had a huge amount of content. This edition is much more like children's enclopedia than a serious books of records. There is much less material than normal and what little there is seemed to have been plucked almost at random and is poorly organised. It may still appeal to children because of the numerous pictues. A few of these are 3D as advertised on the cover, and 3D glasses are included in the book so they can be veiwed. Bought this for my 5 year olds 5th birthday. Wasn't sure if it would be too old for him but its not its absolutely super and we read it every night together, he then looks at the pictures on his own and finds something he wants to learn more about the next night. I know he will use it for years to come as once he starts to read himself he will discover even more. Its split into 7 sections: My Body; People and Places; The Arts; The Earth; Animals and Plants; Scence and technology and The Universe. These are then split into sub sections. So for example My Body has 'look at me' 'my outside' 'bones and muscles' lungs and breathing' ' being born' 'illness' etc etc Each section has interesting facts about how things work and also 'experiments' they can try ...
