A old war movie, with classical themes: cruel war, love, duty and friendship. Very "simple" for today standards, with a strange mix of good aereal scenes and "special effects" of years '50. The DVD is an occasion for a "time bath" in our first tv/cinema experiences

Another epic piece of work from this prodigious young writer. I guess that most of us, of a certain at least, are aware of the outline of events that shaped WW2 around the world but have never taken the trouble to read any historical accounts, either by professional historians or by the generals who tend to publish their own accounts of how they won the war. I wonder where LP will set its own limit on the destinations they cover. Being excellent and nr.1 in guidebooks of unexplored, less known or not well organized places, they also have written books about places like Malta (and The Canary Islands) where one can go easy on your own without a guidebook like this one. About Malta there are numerous guidebooks with detailled descriptions of the places, and that is what people ever need to visit Malta. Most people will be there in some sort of package tour already anyway. Once there the locals speak english and the island is so well organized you do not need a LP to find out what to do, how to get around etc. The tourist office is also extremely well providing brochures, maps of everything you need before ... ... we'll never know. Sadly the typeface was so small that my elderly father would never have been able to read it even with a magnifying glass, so I've had to return the book. A great pity - he was stationed in Malta during those horrendous years and the book may have been a tribute to the efforts of those who served there. Sadly, the publishers have skimped on paper and ink to such a degree that the author's words are lost to any but those with 20-20 vision. And my dad, an old soldier, will have to miss out.

I got this on my first trip to Malta along with another guide book and this was the one I got out whenever I needed to know something. It's easy to use and the information is fairly up to date. A must.

Warburton was an enigma, a hopeless trainee pilot who scraped through to get his wings, made a mess of his early service life, and ended as one of the most highly decorated pilots of the second world war. He went to the same school as Douglas Bader and Guy Gibson, so he obviously had the right stuff injected into him at some point. This man was a true buccaneer of the skies. As a photo-reconnaisance pilot serving in the mediterranean theatre, he has the distiction of never once failing to get either pictures or intelligence of the enemy. Unusually for a phot-recon pilot, he is also credited with nine kills. i had this and the little aa guide book too. must admit i prefered the little one as it told you what buses you needed to get to certain attractions and the spiral guide didnt.
