Truly the worst holocaust testimony ever written. So many mistakes throughout the whole text. Two examples of which were when Mr Muller mentions the camp orchestra in Birkenau, there was none, it was in Auschwitz 1.He also quotes that Kramer was in Birkenau and had came from Auschwitz 2.Both are one and the same place But important errors like these were repeated in every chapter and the worry for me is that Holocaust deniers may pick up on these simple blunders.Mr Mullers over use of adjectives and repetition of statements at times resulted in the book bordering on being boring. It read more like a students written essay who wasnt fully informed ,rather than an actual Holocaust survivors memoirs.Ive read many more imformative Holocaust testimonies ... I have read hundreds of books about the holocaust over the years and yet this book still managed to hold my attention - I could not put it down! The author has thoroughly researched his topic and gives an informative, detailed account of Operation Reinhard, the extermination of Polish Jewry. The book impartially details the full history of the 3 death camps, stories from the prisoners who were incarcerated there and the personnel who worked within them. This book is an absolute 'must read' as it accurately describes the extent of the perfectly oiled killing machine that was devoted to destroying a whole race of human beings. Little is known about Operation Reinhard, the holocaust often being synonimous with Auschwitz. This book is a real testimony to all ... Read More:

I thought this book was cleverly written, from the view of a 9 year old boy - it is only because we have historical hindsight of the events that are being described by the boy, who does not understand, that the full story plays out in your imagination as the story unfolds.
I did not expect the story to end the way it did. I was gripped.

A disturbing but flawed book on one of the darkest chapters in world history. The court transcripts are disjointed and whole pages spread out a few lines onto the whole page. Depth and analysis is not what this book is about and I found the whole thing disjointed and in the end not very satisfying.

I bought this book because I wanted to find out more about Mengele's wartime activities and the efforts to locate him after the war. This book succeeds perfectly in the latter but fails in the former. We are given a lightening fast summary of Mengele's wartime activies, with very little examples or witness statements or indeed much in the way of exploration of the man's psyche. Then we have a beautifully researched and well-written account of his every movement postwar. This book feels unbalanced. For this reason alone only 3 stars. Surely developing the character of Mengele the Auschwitz doctor would only have strengthened our interest in the hunt for Mengele the war criminal fugitive?

I watched this programme while it was coming out and found it gripping viewing. Impeccably researched and sensitively presented, it is TV history at its finest.

Nothing can prepare you for what Auschwitz is like. I visited it in November 1996 with my wife. Camp I is grim, but the way a deserted hospital or minimum security prison is grim. You know that terrible things happened there, but it's a bit hard to imagine it. Camp II, however, is an awful place. The day we visited, the weather was chilly but dry and the sky was lightly overcast. The sheer size of the site is mind-boggling - it seems to go on to the horizon. The remaining barracks are as cold inside as they are outside, because the walls do not touch either the ground or the roof. You realise that ... Read More:

Amongst historians this book has quickly reached the status of a classic. But it deserves to have a much broader readership as the subject it tackles - that of how 'ordinary men' can end up doing morally repugnant deeds - has implications that go far beyond its historical context. There is a human tendency to categorise and blame groups of people because it is easier than facing the possibility that anyone is capable of horror. An example would be the claim that 'religion causes wars' - it places the burden on an external agency, on the 'other' rather than the fact that anyone can commit an atrocity.

This is what Browning's book illustrates beautifully; the gradual steps these ordinary men take on the path to atrocity. Browning refers to a number of psychological studies as ... Read More:

A truely heartfelt account of the pain suffering and injustice inflicted by humans on humans.Very difficult to put the book down and one that leaves nothing to the imagination.Left me wondering how Rudi Verba was able to function as a well rounded objective man.Wish I could have met you!!!!!!!!!

This is a series of six programmes, each of 48 minutes in length.

A very thorough investigation into the root causes of the rise of the Nazi party that makes amazing viewing. Very few of those involved that are interviewed seem to show any remorse and the content is quite disturbing. One aspect of the series that I found disappointing was the continual use of sub-titles when the interviews were in a foreign language. This means that you have to watch the screen at all times and not just listen to the programme. On the Thames TV Series 'The World at War' they dubbed the interviews with English translations and this was much easier to follow. Hence only 4 stars from me.

Closing remarks that it is quite possible that a deeply racist party could come to prominence again are ... Read More:

Extremely disappointing, and in many parts very badly written. That the author spends more time writing about Heydrich's widow's pension, than on his assassination, is quite frankly, bizarre. Overall, an opportunity missed. To see how such biographies should be handled, please check out 'Eichmann: His Life and Crimes' by David Cesarani. Truly excellent.
