With most of the applications produced by Adobe requiring a small mortgage to purchase, it makes a change to see a program that represents good value for money. For less cost than many stand alone raw file converters you have a program that can import raw files using the same plugin that is produced for their full Photoshop application. On top of that you are able to do some surprisingly complicated image manipulation, including full lens distortion correction and white balance control. For the more graphic inspired amongst us it carries a wide range of adobe effects and brushes. For the less technically minded you can switch to quick or guided mode. The layout is good, and keeping the effect palettes on the far right of the interface works ... Read More:

great value for money at the price that I picked it up for. Not sure about the humour but if you can see past this then well worth a read. If like me you're trying to a bit more than just a point and click shooter then this will give you some good, and easily accessible, tips.

I've been a wedding photographer for 25 years. I thought this was going to be another "how to take photos book". I've liked other Scott Kelby books so whilst in a bookstore picked it up just for a quick glance, but was suprised to see how much detail he went into. Each page being a new subject, it gave a detailed taster of each subject without all the waffle many books have, and then gave links to websites where you could read more or get equipement that is hard to find. To me it was worth it just for those hard to find links.

This book is not for the beginner, but if you want to improve your editing skills I don't think you will find better. The included DVD is worth the money on its own. Thoroughly recommended.

This book does all it says on the tin and more. That is, it provides a perfect substitute for the manual that I would have hoped to have found in the box. But in fact it does much more than this, because it is written in a very readable style, and provides helpful tips and advice that one would not generally expect to find in the average software manual. I feel quite annoyed that I was nearly put off buying it because a couple of the earlier reviews said its presentation was poor.
In my view the presentation is absolutely fine, it's perfectly adequate for its purpose, and is well up to the standard of presentation that one should expect for a book in this price bracket. If you are looking for a manual that covers the essential fucnctions of Elements ... Read More:

I cannot emphasise enough how well this book sets out the basics of DSLR photography. I am on my first DSLR and to be honest knew nothing about aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how the 3 interelate. This book sets these out so clearly that the layman can understand. Been wondering how/when to use the P, M, A or S buttons on your camera
?, This explains it perfectly, and gives nice glossy examples of a scene when you would use f/4 vs f/22. I also have the David Busch book to "replace" the manual, but this far exceeds what you can learn from that. Both good books in their own right.

I've used Photoshop for a number of years now, and even teach it on a regular basis, but this book blew me away! It wasn't so much that all the information in it was new to me (though a lot was), but the way that Matt explains things is fantastic!

I think I managed to get as far as about page 10 before I went "wow, that's brilliant!".

Highly recommended. Thanks Matt!

One of the things I really like about this book is the way it carefully leads you step by step through all the stages you need to change your photographs into fantastic artistic images. Its a large subject but the book manages to successfully cover it all in an interesting and imaginative way, I found it well written and very informative.

The book is broken down into 13 sections and covers just about everything a digital photographer could wish to know, the breadth & depth of the book is just excellent. The individual sections are: The Next Level, Scanner and Camera Techniques, Processing Raw Files, Photo Organisation and Management, Pathways to Editing in Elements, Images Changes .. Beyond the Basics, Darkroom Techniques on the Doorstep, Professional Retouching, ... Read More:

After reading some of the previous reviews, I thought I would buy this book as surely some of the comments about the humour being awful must've been exaggerated!? Well, sadly not - the humour is truly awful. But don't let this put you off - the book in itself is amazing. I read it cover to cover in one sitting and had to get up to try all the techniques, despite it being way past my bedtime. I find the book easy to follow, the techniques are brilliant and will have anyone making the most of CS3 in no time! Highly recommended. (although I would agree that while the book tells you "how", it will not give you understanding of "why")
