A great read. The only problem was that i had to get up for work the next day when i had been reading the book all night. A very compelling story. I have only just got into Cornwell and am reading everything he has written. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Why cant Conn Iggulden write any faster? Have to say, another triumph. I love the way he writes, you feel like you are part of the whole journey. It's clever as well, because the heroes aren't heroes, there just as nasty as the bad guys, however they are your bad guys! Going to be depressed again now waiting ages for his next one :-(

It's almost possible to see the difference in the pages written by the great man himself - but still a great read and although his wife's contribution is not the same - I'd still rate the book as a classic and streets ahead of anything by other so called "greats" of the genre.

I studied this period (and this battle in particular) during my history degree in the early 90's and decided that I would delve back in time to remind myself what this was all about. Azincourt was my companion on a return flight to Bahrain recently and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Historically interesting, full of action and detail it really had me turning pages through both flights! When I landed at Gatwick I was disappointed to have to find another book to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a passing interest in medieval history, but it's easily accessible to absolutely anyone who enjoys as good action adventure.

Genghis Khan ... there was a dearth of information for the best part of 800 years on the life and times of Genghis, and what little there was was all negative. This is not because Genghis was any more barbaric than anyone else of his time, but rather since all the history available to us it was written by the conquered and threatened (Persians, Chinese and Russians mainly). Imagine for a moment if the only available history of Richard the Lionheart was written by the arabs... how would it read? Something like ... I have often been critical of Iggulden's work - especially this recent series. However, that criticism has been stopped dead in its tracks. This is a stunning book, and perhaps one of the best I've ever read. Iggulden has finally worked out what he is so good at - describing battles in a breathless and uncompromising fashion. Most of this book is a series of tremedous battles/sieges - and when he does come out of this, he keeps the less interesting interludes brief and concise. One teeny observation which does annoy me - his total fixation with one word - "wince". Surely he can find a substitute for it! I enjoyed this second book more than the first as I found the plot and the characters more engaging. You can read the second book without reading the first as it is set over 90 years later and there is a new set of characters. However, it probably is advisable to read the first book so that you get a bit of background on how the Order of Sion fits into the Templars structure and can relate better with the plot in `Standard of Honour'. Overall an enjoyable and absorbing read however I feel the ending may have been slightly rushed. A good book for fans of Historical Military Fiction who fancy a plot set in the time of Richard Plantagenet and the Crusades.

What an excellent Tudor mystery - Sansom really brings Tudor life 'back to life'! If you enjoy grizzly murder mysteries with twists and turns then this is for you. It is well up to the standard of the previous 3 Shardlake novels and we can only hope the fourth one will not be too long in arriving! Read and enjoy - one to immerse onself in on a cold winter night!
