I found this too wordy and deep for a simple soul such as myself however I did as advised on the Oprah site and sat with 2 marker pens in different colours to underline that which I understood and that which I didn't. Needless to say one colour got a heck of a bashing!!

I've given it 3 stars though because I did actually get some really good bits out of it which I jotted down on the spare blank pages at the back (in my own words so I would understand later) and for that it was worth reading/buying.

What I am most chuffed about however is reading a review by Paul Chipperfield (lower down) recommending Cheri Huber's book which as he said is much kinder to us mere mortals and he is sooooo right!! Cheri Huber writes in ... Read More:

"If you're talking about innovation and you want to explore that WOW factor, why not put a WOW card on every seat for the audience to wave whenever they feel a WOW moment" ..... ARE YOU SERIOUS? ... Who is he presenting to children or the mentally challenged or what?? Am I the only one who thinks that would be hilarious to watch? This is the sort of cringe-moment that spoils this book (and trust me there are plenty of them).
However, the book does have SOME useful information, if you can get past the pompous style of the author who seems to think that using big words to explain simple concepts makes him sound more intelligent, despite the fact the he advises clarity over complexity as a key part of good presentations.
I found this book ... Read More:

: Working on Yourself Doesnt Work: A Book about Instantaneous Transformation
Although a quick and easy read, after getting to the end of the book I was still waiting for it to get to the point. To me the book seemed to be nothing more than an advert for the Instantaneous Transformation workshops. I hope this book works for others, but unfortunately I didn't get anything from it.

This is the most inspiring book I have read this year, I could not put it down, and I shall be buying many copys for Christmas presents. I have already recommended it to lots of friends. It is increadable what Greg Mortenson has achieved in such a short time, what a wonderful way to promote peace. I did not want the book to end, it was so well written. Just wish there were many more Greg Mortenson's in the world.

Peter Fenwick is a Neuropsychiatrist and is considered to the leading British clinical authority on the process of dying including end of life experiences, actual death experiences and temporary death experiences. This is not a clinical study as such because it relies on anecdotal evidence of something that cannot be imperically measured. What Dr. Fenwick does is to group together the variety of experiences from carers, family members and what is intriguing is the remarkable similarity of content. Intriguing and interesting.

The book starts well although it reads a bit like a hagiography written by Arthur Hailey. That is ok by me I like Arthur Hailey and have always regarded Buffett as a saint. I laughed out loud several times during the first 50 pages.

After this it gets a bit heavier going. There are many insights and many surprises. I had not realised that Berkshire Hathaway lost money from the start and wound up having the textile mill shut down. I had not reliased that Buffett was first a director of Salomon brothers and then became chairman appointed to clean up the mess which he seems to have done with great honour distinction and dignity. I liked the account of the arbitration with the former director Gutfreund who seems to have had it coming. His ... Read More:

Anyone who knows anything of Murakmi's work should be aware that a book about running written by him won't just be a book about running. Short, but never slight, the book muses on many subjects from memory, to why he started writing, perfecting a swimming technique, to some of the best music to run to. All written in Murakmi's own distinctive voice.

Whatever he writes about this is Murakami's voice you're hearing. There is insight into the kind of person he is and also the kind of person runners are. There is plenty of running here and at times it does almost feel like the book has been written at the pace of a long run as its energy is brisk yet economical. For anyone looking for a big novel, it's not here. For anyone who wants a look into the ... Read More:

Blame Malcolm Gladwell - but after Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking social psychologists of the type he featured in that book have been coming out of the woodwork to publish in the pop science market in alarming numbers figuring, reasonably, enough that there's a bit of money to be made on the side. I'm guessing royalties from articles in the International Journal of Psychology would pale in comparison.

One of the latest is Dan Ariely, whose unique selling point is a horrific accident he sustained as a student Israel which left him with burns to 70% of his body. His book does what it says on the tin, by way of explaining a number of social experiments that he and his colleagues have run in the last few years, loosely themed around the observation ... Sadly, not as good a book as I was hoping for - it has all the breathless, unthinking enthusiasm of Wikinomics with none of the careful consideration in WeThink, marking it firmly as one of the 'overly exuberant' family of books on the topic - in short, it gives one very biased side of a very complex topic.

Some of the author's online writings are thoroughly fascinating and well considered, such as his thoughts on taxonomies versus folksonomies, but none of that intelligence is really shown in this book. It's not bad by any means - it's entertaining and well-written, but it's not as informative and insightful as I had expected from a book by Clay Shirky.

I have been looking for an answer all my life and have found it in How To Have A Magical Relationship by Ariel and Shya Kane. This book opened my heart and eyes to things I've always known deep inside: I am not defective, life can be filled with magic and ease, my instincts are valuable, and that all we have is this moment! After reading this book I realized that I can either complain about my life, or I can be truly present for this amazing moment of "now"! The Kanes talk about dating for fun. What? Aren't I supposed to date to find a mate? I used to put so much pressure on myself that I forgot about fun and stopped dating altogether. This book showed me that dating can be easy, fun and magical. It's made me aware of a whole new possibility. Don't wait-read this book.
