It doesn't matter which magazines you buy that are for Apple computers, the brainwashing starts straight away, such is Apple's marketing skill.

So when I was considering buying an Apple laptop, I wanted to find something 'independent' and the Dummies guide appealed.

The advice inside was clear, and they are impartial. It pointed out a few downsides to Apple computers, but there certainly aren't many of those. To coin a phrase, a liked the book so much I went out and bought the computer. Occasionally I dip back into it just to clarify a few points, but in my expereince Apple computers do just work. It appears the marketing isn't all brainwashing. It's true.

This is a useful book at allaying your fears if ... Read More:

I have just bought an unbelievable MacBook, ( I previously owned a G4 running Tiger) I was a bit worried because I know Snow Leopard is on its way in summer 2009, so upgrades will date this book. However this book is easy to understand and full of logical short cuts. The only drawback is that because I have used a Mac for years a lot of the book contains information I know about. I will purchase the IPhoto manual by the same author simply because I was so impressed and I am finding that IPhoto 08 7.1.5 is very different from the IPhoto I had on my G4. This book would make any Mac Leopard owner a great Xmas present.

Have some people been using a different version of this software from me? (or trying to run it on OS9 maybe?)
It's not perfect (lack of VBA support, lack of advanced features in Excel, slow to start up, not fully compatible with spaces), but I think it's quite good and definitely worthy of four stars (I'm running the latest update 12.1.4 at the time of writing).
iWork '08 is not a good idea, as although Apple say it's compatible with the word and excel formats, it doesn't display the advanced formatting in these files properly. The only serious competition Office 2008 has is OpenOffice 3.0 (which now runs natively on the mac).

This guide to the new features of Mac OSX.5 is the latest update to the series. It's a true pocket book and is easy to carry around by those supporting this new OS or as a desktop reference to the user. Its clear contents and index allow you quickly find the topic or function you need, and its style a simple read. It took me four hours for the 190 pages and found myself quoting the new function buzz-words such as coverflow and stack quite naturally afterwards. The only drawback to this book is its over-enthusiasm for Macs over other systems. The truth is that Vista and Leopard have more similarities than XP and Tiger. For those Windows users who find they have to use a Mac OS for the first time, Leopard and this book are a good starting point. Also ... Read More:

I use Office on my PC but have only recently been using it on my MAC.

I am not reviewing the programme, rather the book. However I would say that since Office comes with little paperwork to get the best from the software you need a reference book. OI like the Dummy books. Easy to follow and I love the jokes at the start of the chapters.

I have not read the book cover to cover but rather delve in when I need assistance. I use Word and Excel most and the book has helped me when I have had problems and I have now started following the books instructions to really get full power from both of those programmes.

I would recommend Dummies to any end user. This book helped me and will help the average Joe. Unlike Microsoft ... Read More:
