Truly the worst holocaust testimony ever written. So many mistakes throughout the whole text. Two examples of which were when Mr Muller mentions the camp orchestra in Birkenau, there was none.He also quotes that Kramer was in Birkenau and had came from Auschwitz 2.Both are one and the same place But important errors like these were repeated in every chapter and the worry for me is that Holocaust deniers may pick up on these simple blunders.Mr Mullers over use of adjectives and repetition of statements at times resulted in the book bordering on being boring. It read more like a students written essay who wasnt fully informed ,rather than an actual Holocaust survivors memoirs.Ive read many more imformative Holocaust testimonies and even Mr Muller ... I received this book only a day or so after ordering it here on Amazon, and began it that very evening.....
I have found it hard to put down, and thoroughly recommend it, I shall finish it by tomorrow, and then my daughter is going to read it. She is learning all about Hitler and world war2 for G.C.S.E's, but not enough is taught regarding the Jews and what happened. This book should be read by all children, to help them realise how lucky they are not to have to experience such horror, and to feel and empathise for what really happened, and to stop it ever happening again. This is an amazing, inspirational and terribly moving insight into a young Jewish girls experience of living through World war 2 in Poland. I cried, and also am filled ... Read More:

A truely heartfelt account of the pain suffering and injustice inflicted by humans on humans.Very difficult to put the book down and one that leaves nothing to the imagination.Left me wondering how Rudi Verba was able to function as a well rounded objective man.Wish I could have met you!!!!!!!!!

The unusual form of the book, each chapter relating to an element of the periodic table (not every element is included), to tell the tale of a chemist's life is highly effective. The content reinforces the form and the form the content to give a really high quality novel.

This was our group's favorite book by a modest lead over Lolita and The Master and Margarita. It is beautiful and moving and much more enjoyable than his good but harrowing Auschwitz tales.

Please do not be put off by the slow start - Argon is a very thin, rare gas and this chapter is one of the least engaging perhaps for that reason. Iron was most people's favorite element.

I bought this book because I wanted to find out more about Mengele's wartime activities and the efforts to locate him after the war. This book succeeds perfectly in the latter but fails in the former. We are given a lightening fast summary of Mengele's wartime activies, with very little examples or witness statements or indeed much in the way of exploration of the man's psyche. Then we have a beautifully researched and well-written account of his every movement postwar. This book feels unbalanced. For this reason alone only 3 stars. Surely developing the character of Mengele the Auschwitz doctor would only have strengthened our interest in the hunt for Mengele the war criminal fugitive?

The eye witness accounts including confessions of some of the SS guards and harrowing recollections of some of the survivors is shocking. What happened at Auschwitz wasn't just due to the Nazi participants but also to the collective blind eye that was the rest of Europe. I had never realised before that the camps could have been bombed but were not, or that other governments had refused refuge to the Jews trying to escape. I also now understand why this subject should never be forgotten or dismissed as having happened "in the past". Recent world events involving "ethnic cleansing" such as in Bosnia are reminders of how a "modern" cultured nation can still descend into this type of insane hell. This 6 part series should be shown to all school kids, as part ... Read More:

I think I have read this book four times to date and it just keeps getting better with age. I have read many holocaust books but by all accounts I must say this would be the one that makes you understand- but of course perhaps that's not really possible at all. Throughout the story you must always remember that this is not fiction. Real life. Real people. Which is hard to contemplate when it is read. Its the story of Elli Friedmann- telling her own story off the horrors she saw and endured through adolescent eyes- growing up in Nazi occupied Hungary. Never to be ignored it is a briliant and compelling book.

I've read a lot of Holocaust books that describe the terror and atrocities of the concentration camps, but I found this book very unusual in that despite Hetty being at the same time and place as the other victims, one turn of fate after another leads to her narrowly escaping all the worst horrors of WWII and surviving relatively unscathed right on the edge of it all.
Hetty's wonderful strong caring character shines through in this book making this a less bleak read than most other Holocaust autobiographies, but still as poignant.

9.Hanged at Auschwitz: An Extraordinary Memoir of Survival by: Sim Kessel

: Hanged at Auschwitz: An Extraordinary Memoir of Survival
If the story in this book formed the basis of a cinema film, people would believe it was too fanatastic to be true.

Yet this is a story of real life. It is a story of survival in the face of what appeared to be total odds against. It shows what can be overcome but it also clearly outlines the horror of Auschwitz and the Holocaust.

Be warned the book is 'a cannot put down' once you start reading it.

The author has an amazingly perceptive insight into the character of the various people whom he encountered and conveys this in a factual manner which makes the sheer horror of what they were doing even sharper.

This is more than just the story of one man, remarkable though that is. It sheds light on just how ordinary individuals can ... Read More:

`Night' is a poignant, evocative story of a young Elie Wiesel and his father and their experiences in a number of concentration camps during WWII. The translation from French is done beautifully, as it is written in a plain, straightforward manner, and it reads with an eloquence and softness that belies the subject matter. As you read `Night', you find yourself cringing, eyes wide with horror, and it gives you a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach to know that innocent human beings were subjected to physical and emotional pain beyond belief. It is not graphic in the sense that there is too much information, it tells, in its simplicity, the truth of what one person experienced at one time, on this earth. Sixty years later, we believe what history has shown us of these atrocities, ... Read More:
