I like the clear easy to read mapping which manages to be highly detailed without seeming over complicated. We covered quite a lot of ground in two weeks and found walks we would not have discovered without this map which inspired confidence. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the island who wants to get away from the tourists and into the real Tenerife.

I agree to a large extent with the previous reviewer, this is a useful but far from flawless guide. On the positive side, it is well written and easy to follow with good maps and points of interest mentioned along the way. On the negative side, there are far too many short walks and some that in my opinion barely qualify as a walk. Often, an obvious longer route is 'chopped up' into two or three sections and described as a number of shorter walks. I also agree with the previous comment regarding the mapping. It would be really useful to include the paths that coincide with the described routes so that those wanting a longer trip could extend the route to suit. OK, it may not be as comprehensive as the AA Spiral Guide, but if you want to explore the island outside the big southern resorts and yet don't want to shell out the £9.99 for the bigger book, then this little book will do you very well. Andrew Sanger does an excellent job, leading the would-be explorer to all of Tenerife's 'major sights', and indeed to a great many lesser-known destinations, with helpful information given on opening times of attractions and museums, directions for getting there and a rough guide as to what you can expect to pay to get in. Having just spent a week on Tenerife using this book for our walks, I cannot recommend it highly enough. The walks are clearly described, giving walking times and height climbed for each walk. The walks are varied and range from easy (blue) to difficult (black). There are walks on all parts of the island, from the forests in the north-east to the barren Calderas in the centre of the island, including the ascent of Teide. Just one thing, when Klaus says "Only for the adventurous walker", that is what he means. Some of the paths are fairly steep and scrambling is required.
