The Rough Guide to Brittany and Normandy beats all the others hands down. We always go for Rough Guides, finding them to be the best written travel books on the market, with a good balance of practical details and background information, and this one is one of the best we have used. Am loving the new colour sections, too.

For our first visit to Brittany this was an excellent guide; the amount of information is sufficient without being overwhelming, the writer's style is clear and informative, the map-based "day out" structure makes it very easy to visualise the options available in any particular area, and his identification of some of the more obscure, but nevertheless fascinating, places to visit (alas we didn't make it to the living bee and the city of ants at Kercadoret, but the guided walks to the mussel and oyster beds from Le Vivier sur Mer were fascinating), provided the sort of variety necessary for children (and adults!) to avoid being overloaded with beaches and medieval towns. I've just read the previous review and feel obliged to redress the balance, having bought this book from Amazon prior to our own family holiday in Brittany this year. In point 1. his review states that there isn't enough accommodation information but goes on to suggest in point 4. that they get rid of the accommodation details to make way for more information on attractions?! Which is it to be??? Do you want accommodation details in there or not!? What's more, with some 750 miles of coastline in Brittany alone, you're not going to easily be able to cover every beach, let alone every accommodation option or every attraction. That's just simply not realistic. I bought the book having already booked our accommodation also for a recent ... Read More:

I used this book on a recent holiday in the Gulf of Morbihan. There were loads of interesting walks to draw on, clearly explained, easy to follow, taking me to places I wouldn't have come across otherwise. I heartily recommend it if you enjoy walking.

This neat little guidebook to central Brittany covers that area from the north to south coast, divided into six sections. Each of these includes alphabetical listings and details of sights worth seeing and places worth visiting. Following some of the recommendations have led to many good discoveries, including some interesting but not well known places. There are also lots of colour illustrations and some little line drawings of architectural features by the author. A lot of small details in the text give the authentic flavour of her personal experience and knowledge of the area.
