I used this most days on a recent trip to Madrid where english was not widely spoken and my spanish is definitely at the 'beginners' level! Very small book, includes everything you could need for a holiday and fits neatly in your pocket so its always to hand. Includes food and drink, numbers, greetings, getting around - all the usual stuff. I liked this book because I could get it out discreetly on busy streets without looking like an obvious tourist.

A fantastic book, which you really should buy if you plan on seeing France. The amount of information in here is vast, and yet readable (I read it cover to cover as bed time reading to plan my travels!). On the one hand it is full of practicalities such as telephone numbers, opening hours, travel information etc. but it also uses good descriptive language so vivid as to give you a good 'feel' for places, stirring up mental images of those Parisian cafes and Provencal meadows that possess a certain je ne sais quoi...

Took my fiance to Paris recently and bought this book for the trip. Have always been impressed when I've taken one of the Lonely Planet guides on my travels, and this book maintained the high standards that I've come to expect from them. Doesn't matter if you know a bit about where you are visiting or if you are completely clueless - everything you could need to know is in here. Well written, easy to use, full of useful information, and yet small enough to fit in a coat pocket. Highly recommend.

This is a good guide book, as all the guide books in the series, but I did expect a bit more from it. I travelled around Italy together with my husband the summer of 2005, and we used this guide book a lot. But it is a guide book, nothing more. There are quite a bit of things that have changed since the book was last edited, but this is expected. We are planning to send the findings we did to the editor, so that it can be added or changed in the next edition, perhaps. We felt that the book focused too much on churches, castles etc, and a lot of really interesting things were missed - like the local food markets, which we love to visit.
