How many times have you bought a cook book and only end up using two or three recipes from it. Having opened Ottolenghi I started at the beginning and read through all the recipes and have not found one that I don't want to do. I haven't been to the restaurant but the pictures in the book certainly whetted my appetite.

For those who think vegetarian equals deprivation, they need only pick up this book to find that meat is not always necessary for rich, delicious meals. Many of the recipes require only a few ingredients, and none are difficult to prepare, so this is excellent for those just beginning to cook or interested in trying out a meatless diet. Most definitely worth adding to any cookbook collection

This is a wondeful cookbook which provides recipes for some unusual ingredients, and all are lovely (and some, like woodland produce, are in fact free!) You'll feast on such unusual dishes as nettle risotto, tart with wild garlic leaves and feta cheese, watercress soup, parsnip, fennel and quinoa pilaf, and a spelt farotto. So unusual but so delicious. I have been a veggie for nearly 15 years and have accumulated quite a large selection of cookbooks in that time but none of them have introduced me to so many unknown yet positively divine foods as Denis Cotter has. I have been vegetarian for over 25 years, and have run through the gamut of Rose Elliot, Diet for a Small Planet, Moosewood, Greens, Millennium, you name it. This book is in a different league. I received it as a gift, and it is now my favorite cookbook. The recipes are nutritious, flavorful and colorful. No pretensions or politics, just inspiring, clear and artfully simple recipes. This is a book that celebrates the beauty and flavor of vegetables, and even my kids like it!

GORDON RAMSAY'S HEALTHY APPETITE is a must have for those who want great tasting food without all the calories and fat. It seems some have been put off by the fact that this is not a diet book. No one ever said it was. Rather, it is a healthy approach to eating without blowing your entire way of living out of the water. What Ramsay wants to make clear (I believe) is that there are several factors involved in healthy eating: proportion, moderation, seasoning, and the right combination of foods, just to name a few. Highlights for me include the "Four Cabbage Coleslaw," the "Penne Primavera," and the "Pot roast sirloin of beef." Rose Elliott is a really fantastic vegetarian Chef & writer, I really wish she had a tv show as well as her great past catalogue of books. Shes practical & straightforward & her recipies are great fo veggies & non vegetarians alike. Buy the book & be led by the hand by a true talent in the world of Vegetarian food.

I love this book - every recipe I have made has worked. Having repeatedly borrowed it from the library I tried to buy a copy without success - until now, with this lovely new paperback edition. She seems to have come up with many ideas that I have not seen elsewhere - very refreshing. Also, many recipes are for two people which avoids having to scale everything down - although she must have a bigger appetite than I have! There are no pictures of the food; instead there are vibrant fruit and vegetable ink paintings. I wouldn't have minded fewer of these but it's a small quible and better than nothing at all. It is one of the few books that I actually cook from out of my embarassingly large collection of vegetarian cookery books.

This is a great place to start with mediterranean cookery. The recipes are easy to follow and sound delicious. The food is put into a social and historical context too. I immediately spotted the recipe for drunken figs (substituting dried figs for fresh and port for brandy) to make for a party I was attending the day I got the book. They were delicious and went down very well with my friends. You will be well rewarded by this book - it has prompted me to buy Paola Gavin's other cookbooks too.
