This is a good guide book, as all the guide books in the series, but I did expect a bit more from it. I travelled around Italy together with my husband the summer of 2005, and we used this guide book a lot. But it is a guide book, nothing more. There are quite a bit of things that have changed since the book was last edited, but this is expected. We are planning to send the findings we did to the editor, so that it can be added or changed in the next edition, perhaps. We felt that the book focused too much on churches, castles etc, and a lot of really interesting things were missed - like the local food markets, which we love to visit. ..instead of having to pay through the nose for a copy in a Sienese bookshop. As ever, LP guides have the feeling of being written by someone who's actually been there, and the advice on San Gimignano (get there early or go in Winter) would have been worth it alone. This is an excellent guide, especially if - like us - you were roaming over both regions during your holiday. Highly recommended

They say don't judge a book by its cover, this book at first appears an excellent resource, but in practice is sadly lacking. The maps are inaccurate as is much of the information provided about sights within Rome. This does not live up to the standard I have come to expect from a Lonely Planet Guide.

This is an amazing item, I have tried many diferent techniques to learn Italian and this is by far the best. I really do encourage you to buy this you won't regret it. The voices used are really good as well, they saying everything clearly allowing you to understand quicker. The music is also an added bonus it allows the words to stick in your brain faster, and makes the experience alot more enjoyable. With this product its not a matter of having to use it, but you want to use it. Fantastic.

I purchased this book for a recent trip to Italy and I couldn't have done without it. The menu reader was excellent as was the section on travel. Many Italians were just impressed I tried. Many of the words were also put into useful phrases and the more difficlt words were spelt out phonetically for ease of pronunciation. I would reccomend it for any trip around Italy.

After recently arriving home from a fantastic trip to Florence (Siena and Pisa), I must say how positively useful my husband and I found this guide. It gave us up to date information on the best locations to visit (away from the tourist trail), information on the best times to visit important places of interest (with helpful hints) and, most important of all, where to dine. We didn't have a bad meal! We also found the walks listed, very useful. All in all, this was a fantstic guide and well worth the money! Thanks Lonely Planet!!
