This is without doubt the best book written on the subject of house purchases in Italy. It shows deep knowledge of the history and culture of the country and the variety of its regional cultures. In all respects save one this is an improvement, if such were possible on the two previous ones. Unfortunately, however, this time there does not appear to be an index, and this is a big minus for any informative non-fiction work. I do not know who took the decision to remove the index, the author or the publisher, but either way this was a major error.

Although this took 6 weeks to arrive (which I guess shows how popular it is) it was worth the wait. Its a great place to start for anyone considering buying property in Italy. I have now lent it to a friend who is probably going to buy something in Ambruzzo, and although I ended up not buying property in Italy if I ever did - I would ask for this book back again. It's got good advice about the regions and important checklists - things to consider costings for things like replacing roofs, renovations etc. Although if you are thinking of buying in Italy and if you want to renotate though the golden rule is: You must be on site for anything to happen or hire a great project co-ordinator which can be a bit costly ... I actually just read this for the second time before posting a review and liked it slightly better than I did the first time. The writing's elegant but light and therefore easy to read but... I don't believe in Pippa Lee, she's not a real person, and if she were, she's not somebody I'd want to know. There's not really much of a plot, and what there is ties up far too conveniently at the end with none of the moral dilemma which would have made it interesting - although given Pippa's previous track record, there wouldn't have been much of a dilemma anyway. It's OK but doesn't hook you in emotionally, I can't believe they're making a film of it.

I am currently doing a intermediate level of italian but find it always useful to remember the key verbs. I have used a lot of italian books in order to understand italian and this one explains and does what it says ''drills'' those verbs into your mind with a good set of exercises. A well organized easy to understand book perfect for beginners of Italian! I would seriously recommend it.

Extremely impressed with this book, really in-depth research, with lots of information. See 'culture shock' page 34 spot on observations about the Italian way of life. A really interesting chapter about ideas for new businesses in Italy page 300. Worth reading also is the case histories page 309. Maybe not enough website addresses and telephone numbers but the background research made up for it. I will be recommending it to visitors on my site www.italianproperties.org

A very strange book! As a British ex-pat who lives in an Italian hill village I well understand how tempting it is to keep apart from the locals and their odd ways. Some of his observations are quite accurate although the whole thing reads rather as if he observes life by peering around a curtain rather than by going out and getting involved. He also seems to find violence and threatening youths wherever he goes, both of which are amazingly rare in Italy. Do read this if you've read all the others of the genre. It is at least some form of release from Francis Mayes' cheery, and equally unrealistic peasants but Annie Hawes "Extra Virgin" is a far better-written and more accurate book for those who want to know what living ... I purchased this book as part of my research into buying and restoring a property Italy. The book concentrates really on the seraching and buying process and not as much on restoration. It contains lots of entertaining stories - but I would have liked to have seen more facts, checklists and information about the actual costs of restoring. Bearing in mind that the writer restored a property felt that she would have been happy to share issues like costs, photos etc., An interesting lightweight paperback which gives and introduction to buying etc., in Italy.

Season 8 of Seinfeld immediately follows on from the story at the end of the previous season finale, where George's fiance Susan Ross dies. He is now single and free but Susan's parents appoint him to help run a charitable foundation in honour of her memory. This means more work and it causes much angst for George in several episodes. Jerry meanwhile continues to meet some unusual characters, both men and women, making his usual observations and no friends along the way. Kramer is still living off Jerry and getting into mad schemes whereas Elaine becomes the boss at J Peterman's clothing catalogue.
